Please answer in full as if I think you are a spammer I do not approve membership. What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
I quilt and sew. I also sell textiles from around the world. I'm drawn to texture, technique and color. I haven't had much time in the last few months to work on my own things as I've been trying to build my online businesses, but I love it when I get a chance to go into "production mode".
Where did you learn your textle skills?
My first exposure to the needle was through embroidery. I took classes from an old lady in Brazil on Portuguese embroidery. The style was too "pretty" for me, but later the skills came back and I used them in my own way. I took a basic sewing class in high school but didn't really like it. But, I painted on fabrics and enjoyed that, but still preferred working with clay, wood and other 3-d objects. In the mid-80's I started making crazy hats to sell at festivals, then became interested in quilting and slowly taught myself the skills I needed.
Anything else you want to say about yourself?
I grew up in Brazil, spent 20 yrs in Chicago and now live in Kentucky (USA).
Go for it, Liz! Just remember that the bigger the piece, the heavier it will be with all that folded fabric. Something I didn't think of when I first started...
Love the prairie point pillows. I had an idea that this type of thing might work with. After reading your blog post, though, I will be scaling the idea DOWN I think. I will give it some more thought. You have explored the idea quite a bit it seems, so I may as well take advantage of your experience, huh?
Ha, ha, not psychic. On the SF Main Page, the little layout of member photos - in the left column - shows whoever has done something lately - so, there was your picture and I recognized it. I too am glad to have e-met (I just made that word up) you and I'll bet we will meet in person, someday. :)
Hi, Rachel. Just realised you probably don't know me - I read your blog regularly so you feel like a friend, especially as we have mixed culture families... Hope you have fun here.
