No, there is no theme for the birthday exchange. If you want to, you can have ask everyone what their favourite colours or themes are, so you can make something special for them, but most people just like their birthday cards to be a surprise! Actually, you've given me an idea. I'm going to post a suggestion on the Postcard discussion group - thanks for the inspiration!

I just bought 3 used (sold as "vintage") sarees from India - they are gorgeous, though faded, but what I wanted them for was the silk so I could overdye them, and then manipulate the fabric and embellish. 3 pure silk sarees, some with gold thread, for what came out to $1 a yard!. What a great deal! The best thing was the package it came in - all three folded into a 10 x 10 inch cloth package hand sewn together with about 20 stamps stuck on it. The package itself is a work of art. I will take a picture and upload it.
