Sound strange? Well, not for me. One of the most enjoyable things I do is dink around with new stitches and see how many ways I can manuver the yarn to form shapes and special affects.
Working on the my new pillow design below, I wanted to come up with a lacy grid over the bronze color in the frame. I tries Cables using black fingering yarn but it was to bulky looking. My next try was using lace weight over my fingering yarn, but this time I decide to run the loops in between the stitches. It worked and gives me the affect I want.

This technique lets you run these lovely loops in any direction you want to form a design. These loops are always slipped on the purl side, and moved and knitted on the right(knit) side, with the loops laying flat and open on the surface of your work. They are not hard to do, and create a interesting surface design.

Another feature of this loops is that they are adjustable. Each section is done with a single strand, so it can be loosened or tighten as you please. If you are interested in learning about how to do them, let me know, I have a tutorial you can upload from my website.
Just thought I would share-
