- What textiles are you interested in?
- I love quilting, embroidery, painting textiles and experimenting combining everything together just to see what it looks like. Im more drawn to hand stitching on textiles making things look folk arty.
- Where did you learn your textile skills?
- My mum shown me a lady dressed in victorian costume at a living industrial museum in Sheffield in 1978 this lady was sewing hexagon pieces.
. It wasnt til after my road accident in 1991 when someone gave me a middle of a bedspread of hexagons of course to complete and things just grew and grew from there. I kept experimenting on bits of embroidery but didnt know what to do with those pieces.
All those years ago, i wish I hadnt of thrown those pieces away.
- Is there anything else you'd like other members of Stitchin' Fingers to know about you? Please feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself by way of introduction.
- Im deaf but I lipread well have mild MS when its behaving itself. I have three beautiful lurchers Scratch, Scruff and Bongo and one Akita called Jazz..Sometimes I get out the pencils and paints when inspiration strikes thanks to the brilliant postcard and textile card swap on here ;o)
I love classic rock and new age music and also love having a go at art using watercolours and acrylics.
I would love to make new freinds on here with others that love these things too on rainbow stitches, cloths and anything happy and dazzly. Loves witches wizards stones, bright coloured things, tie dyes artistic souls and horses.

I am very surprised you found the fabric shop in Ely, as it is well hidden behind all the toys. I love browsing in there when ever I am over that way. I heard that there was an exhibition in the cathedral, but I missed it.

I would love to be your friend. Your work is beautiful, especially the butterflies and I love the colours of your hex cloth. I used to live in Leicester while I trained at the De Montforte University just of the Narborough Road. Are all the beautiful Asian fabric shops still there?

Anna Maria Salehar said… Hi Faith...gosh I am glad you like my work enough to ask questions about it. Do you have any background in long short stitch? If not it is best to start with a flower...I started on this journey with a book that Trish Burr wrote. When I had done some 20 flowers, I did animals and now I have made about 9 portraits. I stitch on silk fabric, supported by cotton muslin (heavy stuff). I use cotton thread...I scan the photo and just use the picture facility in MS Word...nothing fancier than that to view it and print it. The rest is just eyeballing the picture and picking the colors. Which is where the fun and hard work come in. But that is also where the challenge comes in. Give it a go. It is very rewarding. I see you use colors a lot well...so be brave...go for it.
