Thistle Threads will be offering an online course in goldwork starting next year. It looks like a very comprehensive course on Tudor and Stuart goldwork covering 28 stitches.
Tudor and Stuart Gold Master Class
Oh boy, I get that, Carol-Anne! Sometimes I think I need THREE other mes to get just the stitching projects and techniques I want to learn and do done!
I'd love to take the ThistleThreads online course this year, but I don't see it happening. :(
I am primarily a traditional quilter but am interested in becoming more proficient at embroidery and needlepoint. I have also done a lot of cross stitch crocheting in the past.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I have learned most of my skills from personal experience and from public TV programs. About 20 years ago when I was living in Atlanta, GA I took a beginning quilting class at the local Hancock's Fabrics store and have been quilting ever since. I would love to take a City and Guilds course and/or one the correspondence courses from the Embroidery Guild of America.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
I also have a book blog called The Mystery Bookshelf. It can be located at http://themysterybookshelf.blogspot.com. As you can tell from the title, I mainly review murder mysteries. In my day job I am a disability rights advocate.
Your little ornaments are all so fun! I'm completely retarded when it comes to quilting...I've been working on the same quilt for about 5 years...ugh! These little gems are so great, I'll bet they look fab on your tree.
Morning Violette - I would like to join the goldwork group but am unsure as to how to go about it so I though I would contact you. I have done two classes in goldwork and would like to learn and do more. I am particularly interested in church embroidery.
Violette, Thanks for the invite, but no thanks. I have a love /hate affair with gold thread. I love the look, hate the stitching. Sorry I haven't replied before, but I keep getting sidetracked when I am around stitchin fingers. So much to look at, and red, so many links to blogs, including yours, and an hour later I forget what I was going to do! I will be looking at what you all achieve though, as like I said, I love the look of gold work!
Hello Violette! There is some mix-up with EGA, and two people at EGA have kindly attempted to correct it. I am an "at-large" member (that is, not connected with any specific club) and perhaps that's the problem. After no less than a national EGA officer intervened, I did receive two copies of the magazine (which I was crazy about), one of which was a back issue. I never received more. I received a note from someone in the EGA office after I posted here about not receiving issues of the magazine, but I give up. Other EGA members get emails and offers and magazines and I have never gotten any of those things. It's not that important to me to keep fighting for it.
Hi, when you go into groups - add a group the next screen asks for the name of the new group and underneath this is a line that says image and a box saying none. Next to this is a rectangle blue/green in colour, if you click on this it will let you upload a picture from your computer. Hope this helps.
Hello Violette:
I've just joined Books and Magazines. You might like to join us in Quilters Anon.
I will visit your mystery blog very soon, because I love mysteries, and I volunteer in a library so have easy access to books, books, books.
I, too, am a hand quilter, tho I intend to practice some machine quilting. There are times that it will be handy to do.
Nice meeting you,
Kathleen in beautiful Litchfield Cty, CT
