Hello, thanks for your comment on my Rose Lifecycle piece that was done for the April TIF Challenge. I blogged the process and techniques at http://fibrefan.blogspot.com/2008/04/second-april-tif-finished.html, including some pix of the work in progress. Enjoy.

I, too, have a drop in bobbin. Sounds like a great technique, guess I'll have to pass on it!! Thanks for the info.

The technique of whip stitch works best if you have a bobbin that is put in a bobbin case. On the out side of the bobbin case is a very small screw that holds the little piece of metal down on the thread. By losing this screw the bobbin thread comes out of the case faster and threrefore appears on the surface of the fabric. Unfortunately my machine is a drop in bobbin and therefore has no removeable bobbin case. If yours is the former type of machine have a go- it is good fun and gives great textural effects.

Hi
Sorry I have not replied back sooner. I have been busy getting my workspace ready for visitors (I am a member of a local open studio group). I too use a backing felt when needle felting, I use the stuff used to stiffen collars. I prefer landscapes and I like the way they can become abstract. Sometimes I add a bit of glitz by machine sewing metalic thread cross it. I love doing free motion machine stitching, However I have just dicovered that I am unable to relax the bobbin tension on my new machine- so I can not get whipstitch (where the bobbon thread comes to the surface) any suggestions?
kind regards
Claire
