I made a trio of ornaments to exchange with other ladies from the Cross Stitchin' Fingers group. I found a freebie pattern online yesterday for partridges and pears made of fabric, and I'm thinking about making some of those.

I just posted the photo of my completed "birds" RR on the group's Flickr album.

The stitches don't show, but I sewed all the way around the edges of the embroidered area with thread matching the front fabric. (It shows a little bit on the chickadee ornament because I used green thread matching the back.) Then I pulled threads f…

I like all three of your ornaments, and this one is my favorite. I also like how you give details in your descriptions. I am wondering how you attach the two linen fabrics together. Please let me know.

I'll post a photo of my RR as soon as I get a photo of it, either this evening or tomorrow. (Sorry I didn't think to do that already.)

I've finished the ornaments... Photos of them in my album - if you want yours to be a surprise, don't look. :)

Profile Information

What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
I do a lot of embroidery, usually to embellish historical costumes that I make. I've made a few patchwork quilts. I've recently gotten back to work on a long-term doll project - anthropomorphic cats dressed in garb from various eras, particularly the Middle Ages or Renaissance.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I am almost entirely self-taught; I've never had any opportunity to take classes or workshops. I learn new techniques from books when I find one I like.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
I obsess about hand sewing.
I own a cat... or she owns me. :)
When I'm not doing some kind of needlework, I'm usually reading.

Thanks, Tansy. I am sure you are right! Although, sometimes I think that the quilt is liked because it carries my scent. But I will stick with you explanation. It's much more positive! Thanks for the comment.

Hi Tansy, I tried to email you but it bounced, so the next best thing is to leave my message here. It concerns the round robin that Jan Lennie has. She emailed me today and I'm forwarding this to you (and Amber) so you both know the situation:
Hi Gina,
I have decided to admit defeat at the moment for Tansy's RR as although the doc says my eye is better , I'm having problems focusing and the count on Tansy's fabric is just too much for me so I'm sending it on to Amber to do her bit then Tansy can send it back to me later to finish if she want's to when my eye is better.
I intend to do Ambers RR as the count is higher and easier to see.
I can't get into the group for some reason at the moment and don't know why so I'd appreciate if you could send this on for me.

Tansy, Your cat is lovely, and obviously likes your quilts as much as my cat likes mine. Cats and quilts just go together, don't they? Your sunshine off center log cabin (I think that is how you made it) quilt is so pretty and perfect for the Spring. I always learn more about color by looking at the quilts on stitchinfingers. And your Sherlock Holmes dragon is both clever and adorable!

Hi, Tansy—Thanks for the compliments on the Easter Flamingo. Love, love your dragons. Desmond and Molly are so cute (Beatles?).

Hi Tansy,
You expressed interest in participating in the 2009 Round Robin on Cross Stitchin Fingers. I'm getting around to finalising the numbers and doing a roster of posting order, as well as finding out what theme (if any) you want the other stitchers to work on your RR. Can you please reply to this either on My Page, or the CSF forum - thanks!
