Please feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself by way of introduction.
I am a Mom of 7. I have my youngest and a grand daughter that I am still raising. I love learning all kinds of crafts. My latest is felting. While I was looking for a little beginners kit my husband insisted I get a Janome Xpression machine. That was last year, I have played around with a little but not sure what I am going to do with it. So I hope Stitching Fingers will be a great venue to learn at.

My Cross Stitching Bag Companion

Posted on January 24, 2010 at 12:00 3 Comments

I started cross stitching in 1972 and in the year 2110 I still love starting a new picture. Sometimes I have about 3 going at the same time. My cross stitching bag has been my companion these many years while raising my children. It has gotten me thru the good times and the hard times. It was the one thing that I could just pick up and put it down any time or take it with me at a minutes notice. I have shared many of finished pieces with friends and have sold several on ebay and etsy. My… Continue

Hello from a warm day in Alaska. 511 is a light sage green, or kind of a dull yellow green - if you have the DMC thread card, you'd know immediately. I put all of my threads on the system that is kind of like sticks? 9bad memory today) and not one of them was 511. I even dug through the bottom of all my sewing bags. No luck. Is there something I could trade with you for it? I need probably 5 skeins, but if I have enough for just the leaves (say 2) I'll be happy.

hi Tania, I found the piece of silk in my stash. I had dyed it years ago and then did free machine embroidery over it. I was looking for a piece of fabric to work a gold work dragonfly on for my sister for her 50th wedding anniversery and when i came acroos this piece of siilk had to use it. The dragon fly and reeds are hand stitched. The wings are a form of stump work . Buttonhole stitch over wire on organza ribbon the stiffened by painting the back with pva glue and cut out veryclose to the wire. Thank you for your comments. Nola

Hi, I dyed the piece of silk years ago and machune stitched it. Found it in my stash when looking for a piece to work the dragonfly on for my sisters 50th wedding anniverery. The reeds and dragon fly are all done by hand. the wings are worked on organsa ribbon, the edge is buttonholed over wire then cut away to form a free form. I paint the back of each wing with pva glue before cutting them out. All I need to do now is frame it. regards nola

Hi Tania,
Thank you for joining our Cross Stitchin fingers group - you are a welcome addition, with all that eye candy posted ! I've posted a welcome message on the Group comment wall, so do come over and introduce yourself.
Off topic, but I was startled when I saw on the new member list that you live in Sturgis South Dakota. My husband and I were watching a documentary on t.v. only a day or so ago, and they featured Sturgis quite extensively - some coincidence!
