Irish spring deodorant soap - ONLY the original scent, not the Aloe or anything else - will eliminate odors and also kill mildew if the object is placed in an airtight bag with the bar of soap - still in its box - for a period of time. Depending on…

Forgot to say - leave the soap in the box!

I am in the U.S. When I get any used item which smells musty - books, fabric, whatever - I put it in a sealed plastic bag with a bar of Irish Spring deodorant soap and leave it for a month. Odor gone! I think the soap kills the mildew. Now I don't w…

I have used my mother's old (1928) Singer, converted from treadle to motor, for years and just a month ago bought a used Bernina 930. I am so HAPPY. The Singer was a real workhorse and still is, and could do forwards and backwards. I also had a zipp…

Hungary has a very strong tradition of embroidery, with specific designs for villages which identify where you live. Of course, today these "costumes" are not worn for every day. As in most countries in the world they are only ceremonial, but many g…

Some more suggestions: You might use one of those little metal needle threaders to pass the thread through the eye of the needle and it will already be double: and.beeswax is also a good conditioner for the thead to keep it from tangling and unravel…

Profile Information

What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
Embellishing, felting, dyeing, sewing, multimedia textile art and sculpture.

I don't quilt, as such, but use some quilting techniques.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I learned from my mother who was a fashion designer in Hungary before WWII and then later in Canada and the U.S. She learned her trade from her mother. She taught me from a very early age and then I got into a totally different career until I retired. I am only recently back into textiles and what I am doing now is self taught from books and my own experiences. I can't go to school - besides there isn't one where I live - and on a fixed income school and workshops are out of the question. So, I am likely re-inventing some wheels, but sometimes that brings very interesting results.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
I am looking for a source for Babylock EMB needles that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?

Hi Susie,

I got started with the encrusting here:
http://www.embroiderersguild.com/stitch/projects/encrustingcalico/index.html

It's a lovely process, so free. I have great plans for a "Little Obelia" project (a favourite book from my childhood)

Probably a way off yet.... but I'm looking for "the" base fabric etc. One day!

Enjoy!

the packaging you recieved is standard way of packing when you send anything outside India, there are people sitting outside the post office to help you do it, if i get a chance will document and send you the way they do it, might take a little while as i do a day job, but will surely do it for you
