Thanks so much for this link. With the advent of the custom fabric printing services, I have been especially intrigued by digital design programs. Unfortunately they can be really intimidating when first opened. I have been trying to find a good cou…
Barbara - could you explain more what you are trying to do? I know people who needle felt around a form to make shaped pieces i.e. hats or vessels. Is this what you mean? They usually start the piece on the form and needle to it to get it shaped. If…

I've been learning all my life... From my Mum, from school (and I did dressmaking GCE O level), Girls' Brigade, family friends (crochet). I became adept at teaching myself crafts from books, so learned this way how to do macrame, tatting, patchwork... I took adult evening classes in pattern-cutting and day schools in coggeshall lace, feltmaking and smocking. When I became ill with ME/CFS, I did a lot of needlepoint and knitting. Then I learned from a lovely lady in a nearby town how to do bobbin lace. Once my younger daughter started school, I started City and Guilds in Creative Textiles (Embroidery) in Bristol and adult education has also allowed me to undertake classes in bookbinding, stained glass, drawing, spinning and rugmaking. I tried to take a distance learning/correspondence course in machine embroidery but found this impossible due to poorly communicated expectations and standards. I'm learning all the time, enjoy attending the odd workshop but my health is too poor at the moment to commit to anything much.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
Hello Sue, I've just joined your feltmaking group and then realised you live near Bristol (where I'm now from) and noticed the message from Sheila below. She and I met at embroidery group last year! So I thought I must say hello, to a fellow textiles lover who lives nearby!
Best wishes
Jules
Hello Sue
That must have been a marathon, refurbishing and then embellishing all the costumes for the dance production; your embellishments and decorations look so interesting,
What with the decorating and this as well you must be feeling better than you have been and now just about ready for a rest! Look forward to meeting you during the NSAW at Worle. Best wishes
Hi Sue found you on Take a stitch on tuesday. Would love to see more of your work?? I have family that live near Bristol. Speak to you soon Happy New Year Sue
Hi Sue. Welcome to the Goldwork Group. I don't live too far away from you - Somerton near Street and Glastonbury. Funnily enough my daughter-in-law lived in Portishead like Annabel, in Down Road. I wonder if they knew each other. I am essentially an embroiderer who dabbles in other aspects of needlework as well. D have a look at my website if you like - gracelister alice. I am a keen member of the Embroiderers' Guild and teach embroidery as well although only locally as I am very deaf. I have done Needlelace but not Bobbin Lace - have always intended to do so but now haven't the time as I am involved in so much else. I am sure you will find the Goldwork Group very interesting. Grace
Yes, thanks for asking - she got back yesterday afternoon rather tired and hungry. She'd been travelling for over 24 hours so was glad to see home. Had to catch a boat to Athens, buses here there and everywhere, but she's quite resourceful so was able to see the "adventure" in it!
