There are so many books about doll making:) If I were you I'd go to my library and take a look to see what they have. A lot of the really good basic books are no longer in print. Also it depends on what type and style of doll your interested in making.

The Book of Doll Making by Alicia Merrett and Crafting Cloth Dolls by Miriam Christensen Gourley are two books that I used when I started out. There is also a recent book called Cloth Doll Workshop by Elinor Peace Bailey, Patti Medaris Culea and Barbara Willis.
