Sibille Kreideweiss replied to Michele Crow's discussion Thread/floss descriptions; sizes and types in the group Hand Embroidery
"Hi Michele, the lower the number, the thicker the thread. So, for Hardanger for example you use the combination 3/5 (3 for surface stitches, 5 for needleweaving), 5/8, 8/12 or 12/16. The thickness depends on the fabric count you use. 3/5 for example…"

What textiles are you interested in?
Linen, Silk, gauze, cotton
Where did you learn your textile skills?
I started stitching at a very early age at home.
Let us know you are not a spammer. Is there anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group?
I love all things embroidery. My main focus is on designing Hardanger, but I'm also doing cross stitch, needlepoint and a little bit of freestyle. I've also discovered gold work. I stitch all my models and are always on the search for new materials. There is so much variety with threads, fabrics and embellishments, I simply have difficulties making a choice.

Sibille, I am not sure exactly what you want to find at the digital designers group. Did you check out the"WHAT "I" HAVE BEEN CREATING WITH A GRAPHICS PROGRAM" and "DIGITAL TO TEXTILE" discussions? Liz Ozselcuk has done a lot of designs with the program that she has documented on her blog. Many could be turned into embroidery. Shirley did some circles here - digital (http://stitchinfingers.ning.com/photo/circles-and-swirls/next?context=user) and here - stitched (http://stitchinfingers.ning.com/photo/gold-angel/next?context=user). There are others.

Are you looking for specific patterns to embroider? Backgrounds to embroider over?

"I need something that can actually draw shapes I could transfer onto a pattern for example, or take over into my embroidery design software." Patterns could be done with specific brushes (which are more like stamps, to me). (I have some at http://www.airynothing.net/Fancys/brushes-p1.html and will be adding more soon. And there are many beautiful brushes available.)
Basic shapes can also be drawn with the help of the gfig filter. I have play only a little with this, so far.
I've taken photos of flowers and created outlines and/or line drawings that could be embroidered.
In Sharon's Studio Journal class we learned to make kaleidoscopes (not a GIMP feature, but at http://www.krazydad.com/kaleido) and find patterns that could be embroidered. (Or quilted or woven or... whatever. I tend to look at/for embroidery and appliqué & quilting.)

Backgrounds to embroider over could be anything at all. I have a WIP of old pictures (engravings?) of birds over which I stamped some GIMP brushes of very modern looking line birds that I'm embroidering. I know Sharon has photos of her embroidery over a digital designs she made and printed on fabric.

I don't think I have any of the functioning addons other than those included in the current download of GIMP.

Also immer was zu tun.

Bist Du eigentlich bei Facebook?

Schön wieder von Dir zu hören. Liebe Grüsse Vera

I notice that you have taken your picture off this site. I am sorry if my comment caused you to do that.

Yes, yes, I saw the enlargement. Thank you so much. Life came inbetween. We had parties and cooking and cleaning and everything..... How comes that you have the Goethe text in your stitching? I am his fan - reading about him and his life. Congratulations for the publishing of your purse in a magazine. That is really wonderful and a success.
