Merrilyn it sounds like you're thinking along the lines of my dream craft room. I don't know how I'd put it all together but I've imagined separate workstations for various activites, a comfy couch and daylight lamp for handwork or reading my favo...
Australian Embroidery & Cross Stitch magazine (recently renamed Creative Embroidery & Cross Stitch) has featured a few stumpwork pieces that are standalone pieces. That is, they are mounted on some type of base, not framed. One such piece was a sm...
Carolyne,
I am able to get RAKAM magazine at a newsagency in Melbourne. I think it is luck of the draw actually whether I am in there at the right time or not but it is possible. I also know of a lady in New South Wales who receives it, though I ...
I admire many types of embroidery. I began with counted cross stitch, expanded to specialty stitches in samplers such as those designed by Just Nan and Victoria Sampler, and am expanding into goldwork and stumpwork, with Japanese Embroidery on the list for next year.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
At classes through shops, and hope to do some classes with the Embroiderers Guild next year.

I'm doing my wiring after my filing - to try and simplify things a bit.
I'm very interested in any differences made in whether you do it before or after filling!

Needlework rose? oooo!
*all* of my Historical Sampler is under the label 'Historical Sampler" in my blog so it's a bit hard to find individual things, but if you search (top left of the blog page) for "Dusty Pink Rose" you'll see the entries on the Needlewoven Rose I'm working on :-)
I also asked a few questions about it on a discussion in the Stumpwork Group - the topic is "Dusty Pink Rose"

(which will hopefully take you directly to the page, tho it isn't hard to find)
So who ran your tutorial?
Do you have any pics?
How did you go about making yours?
Did your petals go around and around, (a'la Jane Nichols) or across?
What did you do for your centre?
Me, questions? I have my design all sorted out, but I'd love to chat to a fellow "rose-er" :-)
Thanks Sharon. I'm not that prolific really though, that's several year's work on the photos there and I've hardly had chance to do much at all this year!
Welcome to Stitchin Fingers. With your long list of interests, there are a few groups here that you may like to join. Just click on groups above to see them all. There are two pages so be sure to click on '2' at the bottom of page one to see them all. Joining is easy, click on the icon of the group you want, that will take you to the groups home page, then click on join this group.
You don't have to join any groups, every one can read the comments and discussions but if you join you can really join in the fun and contribute to the discussions. I particularly hope you will join the Japanese Embroidery group so we can support and encourage you with learning this beautiful technique but I will be just as happy to bump into you on the Goldwork or stumpwork or hand embroidery or .... :-)
