I have never heard of this type of work, but I would sure be eager to see more of it. Still have to do some searching on your site yet. Looks really nice so far!
I saw your questions about Karahana on Susan's page. As I have recently stitched this design, I hope you don't mind if I jump in with some answers.
The main area of each petal is a pair of gold threads couched round and round using brick stitch.
The petal turnovers are box stitch - a single thread is couched to and fro over lines of padding, first couching between one pair of padding threads for several rows and then between the alternating pair for several rows.
Both the center of the flower and the trefoils (three-leafed clovers) are padded satin stitch. There are several layers of padded cotton underneath a final padding layer of silk under the gold satin stitch. Both are outlined with a pair of threads couched together.
The leaves are woven effect (one of my favourite techniques) and are also outlined with a pair of couched threads.
I hope this answers your questions. I have explained some of the techniques in more detail on my blog if you'd like to know more. All of the posts relating to Karahana can be found in this thread.

Thanks for your kind words about my Hardanger piece. The geometry soothes my mind. I like your crochet. I used to do a lot of it myself, and found it very therapeutic also. It is such a useful technique: decorative objects, clothing, household things.
hi judy, thanks a lot! i just folowed the pattern in a quilt magazine, this is my first attempt at quilts! thanks once again for welcoming me to stitching fingers!
