Profile Information

What textiles are you interested in?
I have always loved textiles, and embroidery, but for the past twenty years or so I have been playing with paper. However my life changed dramatically in the past couple of years and my interests with it. I love making dolls, either sewn, or crocheted, and my imagination has run wild with making Dotee dolls.
Where did you learn your textile skills?
My grandmother taught me to crochet, mum taught me to knit. I got my first sewing machine at 12 years of age. I loved the pillowcases my gran embroidered, the doilys and the table cloths. So from an early age I was surrounded by these things and wanting to make my own was natural part of growing up.

Butterfly wings

Posted on August 3, 2008 at 14:00 0 Comments

I have been making a toothfairy. I found the pattern in an old magazine, but the pattern had come apart from the mag and I have no idea who's pattern it is. Maybe if someone recognises it they could let me know.
I have put felt inbetween the wings to give it some oomph, and intend to embroidery on them. Not sure how this is going to go, but here's hoping. Will post pics when it is finished.

Hi Rosie, hope you and all your family are well,we haven't seen much of you here recently.I'm still playing with all things textile, made an Elvis doll, and a pot plant,I had hoped to do something for the October Cloth Doll Challange but my sewing machine is grumbling and chewing up fabric !
My sister has just got an embellisher,I think it's high time I visited her, don't you? Very best wishes Judith.

Hi Rosie, the Dotees are so cute. I love you Ammonite Brooches, they look crocheted, do you mind me asking what thread you have used?

Hi Rosie,

to answer about the cat's muzzle... it's supposed to be a tube. fold and flatten onthe long side so it looks like the picture, and sew around. I admit it's a bit weird, but it gives the 3d effect I guess...

Hope this helps !

Hiiiiiiii Rosie!! YOU are THE BEST!! Thank you soooooooo much for your delightful comments re: 'Sonda, 'Tebe and 'Rati!! They are, in fact, my English-Irish first cousin's daughters - their Mum is a gooooooooooorgeous woman - with one of those faces that should be painted in oils by some fabulous portrait artist- from Botswana. I must send them this photo - they'd laugh themselves silly!! I remember making them all dollies when they were little - I was just teaching myself how to craft stuff back then, so the dollies I made were really pretty crummy - but, those deeeeeeeeeeear little girls loved them to bits anyway!! Cheers! Charlotte

Love your Dotees, Rosie. I've made my first one yesterday, but it is very plain. I'm going to do #2 today and add in a bit more pizzazz! Your pictures are very helpful.

Hi Rosie, hope you don't mind but I've just listed a photo of the ATC I sent you,I know you put on your blog ,but as I have only just worked out how to put photos on the site I thought I would add that to the others.I do wish I was better on the computer,I had never used one until this time last year, when we were given one by our son as a joint retirement gift,of course what he forgot was each time I get stuck with something it's him I ring!! Looking forward to seeing the toothfairy.Judith.x
