Profile Information

What textiles are you interested in?
I quilt and sew. I also sell textiles from around the world. I'm drawn to texture, technique and color. I haven't had much time in the last few months to work on my own things as I've been trying to build my online businesses, but I love it when I get a chance to go into "production mode".
Where did you learn your textile skills?
My first exposure to the needle was through embroidery. I took classes from an old lady in Brazil on Portuguese embroidery. The style was too "pretty" for me, but later the skills came back and I used them in my own way. I took a basic sewing class in high school but didn't really like it. But, I painted on fabrics and enjoyed that, but still preferred working with clay, wood and other 3-d objects. In the mid-80's I started making crazy hats to sell at festivals, then became interested in quilting and slowly taught myself the skills I needed.
Let us know you are not a spammer. Is there anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group?
I grew up in Brazil, spent 20 yrs in Chicago and now live in Kentucky (USA).

Quilting classes with Rayela Art in November- Focus on Applique

Posted on October 14, 2008 at 0:02 0 Comments

I am going to teach two applique online quilting classes during November. See the Fiber Focus blog for details.

It would be great fun to have a nice, diverse group of people participating, so here is an extra incentive: get 10% off for each person you enroll in the class! (If you get 10, it would be free!) I'll comment back here if you have any questions. Come join me!

Participate in a blog article about studio/work spaces.

Hi, everybody! Been having some problems with my computer, so loading anything lately... But, I wanted to share that I am doing a post on my blog, Fiber Focus, on studio or work spaces. The blog's focus is on fiber, but I'm opening this up to anyone who wants to participate (free publicity, hint, hint)... I want to show a variety of spaces and how the users feel about them. Love it? Hate it? Neat freak? Total mess pad? It would be fun to have a… Continue

Go for it, Liz! Just remember that the bigger the piece, the heavier it will be with all that folded fabric. Something I didn't think of when I first started...

Love the prairie point pillows. I had an idea that this type of thing might work with. After reading your blog post, though, I will be scaling the idea DOWN I think. I will give it some more thought. You have explored the idea quite a bit it seems, so I may as well take advantage of your experience, huh?

Hi, Rachel. Just realised you probably don't know me - I read your blog regularly so you feel like a friend, especially as we have mixed culture families... Hope you have fun here.
