Are guinea fowl Christmassy?

Absolutely not! I love your idea. The problem with commercialized Christmas is that it becomes regimented, as if every holiday celebration has to be a certain color or a certain theme. While I will b…

I am fascinated with this Milan needlework. It appears to be worked with needlelace stitches, possibly in a mezzopunto technique (pre-made tapes combined with hand made stitches). Do you consider these two pieces to be embroidery or needle lace?

What a great composition! I love the theme.

You beguile me back to Torchon. After a short intro to Torchon, I gave it up because I didn't know how to make a decent finish. Having learned to do so, I am inspired by your piece which I find has a very interesting design and excellent execution.

I love to see traditional techniques with a twist. You can be proud of your framing job, it looks very professionally done. The mat is exactly the same color same the thread. Bravo!

Profile Information

What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
Unabashed stringaholic, a string and some air and I'm ready to go! Bobbin ace, needle lace, tatting, knitting, crochet, and any other tasty thing I find to do.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
Mostly from books, some classes, usually after I get well started in a particular technique
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
Threads talk to me. I love their dance. The process is everything. I usually feel pretty neutral about the results and can't wait to start the next thing.

I am also interested in making 1:12 scale miniatures and doll houses for adult collectors. PHEW I can't think about any more than that. LOL I will for now stand off and admire all of your beautiful lace. ;)

Dear Patty
The photo of the fans is actually my instructors pieces. I had them professionally done for her. My Drooping Cherry fan is on its way to Japan to made into a fan and my Double Cherry Fan is on the frame in progress. They are so way cool I wanted to share them for all to see cause they are so unique. I am having Midori come teach them in February 2011 at my new seminar I am creating... check my web page for details

Thanks Patty!!!
I wish they photographed better. I have tried several times but the camera just cannot capture the vibrant color and magic of the metallic threads.
WOW a software engineer, I'm impressed!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had been born with computer genes or at least... had a 12 year old around to help me with this thing. LOL

Patty, I so agree about wishing there were fun words on the selvages. I've never been fond of promoting advertising on clothing; for example, a sweatshirt with the brand name in big letters! Nevertheless, I've found myself making little things with selvages, maybe because it is requires no decisions about color, etc.

Your lace and other thread work is amazing to view; I've let the slide show of photos stream past me twice already. Who would not be drawn to the iris you created? Thank you for sharing your work with us.

Hello Patty

Thankyou for your comments on my goldwork photos.

The Or Nue is worked by laying the gold thread on the surface of the fabric and using coloured threads to couch (overcast stitch) gold in place. By varing how close the coloured stitches are placed, it creates areas of very dense colour (in the case of the pink petals or more open areas such as the leaves. In the areas that are not coloured I have used a fine gold thread thread to hold the heavier gold thead in place.

Hi paty,
Thank you for your comments.
Yubinuki (thimble) makig s popular in Japan now and it is possible to get instructions and book ,but they are in Japanese!.As you already know temari making,it is similar things.
You could try web site,www.temarikai.com;look for "thingsjapanese" on the top tool bar;then choose "yubinuki"where they are simple instructions in English.
Hope that helps;if not get back to me. Michko

Hi Patty... of all the string crafts I've tried, I have yet to try bobbin lace and tatting. That would indeed be an adventure. I attended a quilt show in SC convention ctr back in October. It was so amazing.

Chicken Scratch is also known as snowflaking, gingham embroidery and Amish embroidery. It is usually worked on a gingham check in order to have a lacy look. It was traditionally done on aprons. If you go to the photos page and type in chicken scratch into the search word box at the top, you will see a lot of examples of it. You may be right about the threads getting caught if the pattern is put onto a purse. Darn, I thought it was a good idea.

I'm glad you liked my selvage pincushions. I've always saved the tiniest of scraps, but I laugh about saving selvages. You might enjoy the selvage projects at selvage.blogspot.blog--the author has photos of many unbelievable items made with selvages, and she has written a book on the subject. Kathleen C.
