This is something that has irked /amused me for years.
I have discovered a much cheaper system than so called Tapestry wools (and that term isnt correct either..tapestries are woven, needlepoint is stitched!), and have been using them for years.
For a basic 10 count canvas (thats large and I often start beginners on this altho I actually work in 10 count cos its fast ), then ordinary 8 ply knitting wool is fine........to some it is called double knitting........the colours…

I have always been a bit of a rebel and enjoy going out on a limb(thanks Slirley McLaine).
This is true in my art work .... it is usually better if the correct way to do something is learnt first..altho just winging it can be fun..then you can experiment with the new tool.
Art work is no different. An example is in a painting I was doing, with both water and turps nearby as I swap between acrylics and oils, well I washed the brush in…

This is something which has long irked me.
The idea that art is a framed pic on the wall, craft is something little old ladies do and artisans ... mmmmmmm thats trickier.
OK, art is everything, a crafter needs more skills than a pure artist...in order to express themselves in their chosen piece they may have to draw on many different skills, and take a long time learning to be able to.
I become somewhat cross when people refer to craft as if its a second class citizen…

Thank you for your nice comments on my TAST-piece. Check out my Algerian Eyelet dog over on my page! I really loved this TAST-stitch. Although it was a bit of a challenge to stitch a dog with it!
Have a nice day, Jessica

Judith A Helms said… Nicola: Thank you so much for your comments on my pictures. In perusing your site I was especially interested in your beautiful needlepoint projects. At present I am attempting to convert some of my knitted pillow patterns into needlepoint. In checking out the kits available, I found that most use 14ct canvas for their base- so I have aimed for that count. I noticed in your post on the yarns you mentioned 8 ply wool - I will keep that in mind. Right now I use wool fingering yarns for my pillow tops, and thought I would attempt to try using them on some NP canvas just as an experiment. We'll see what happens.
