Hi Nancy
The North Sea Dawn piece is tiny -- either 5" or 6" square.
I think what you're seeing in the top right hand corner are my machine stitches edging the piece. I use a narrow stitch that looks a bit like button hole stitch. It makes a great edge finish, and it's not noticeable at all. Karen Goetzinger, a very successful local fiber artist said in a course that I took from her about 5 years ago that she uses this stitch on all her work.
Thanks for your comment. I was very pleased that the person who bought the piece used to work as a curator for the Museum of Civilization here in Ottawa.
cheers,
Frances
Bernadette said… Thank you for the kind words Nancy. I did not feel so accomplished with this piece. I felt discouraged during the work many times. I also know I need to practice practice practice. It taught me all the things I need to still learn and that was encouraging. I think the take away for me, was direction and placement of the darkest value need to be well thought out. At times I wanted to take a paint brush and just wash a bit more of a value in specific areas. I think this medium demands much more discipline than pencil or paint.
