Profile Information

What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
Embroidery, crazy quilting, cross stitch, crocheting, tatting and knitting. At the moment I am intrigued by using vintage patterns for tatting and crocheted edgings for CQ seams.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I was taught to sew and knit by my mother and grandmother. Along the way I taught myself to crochet and learned about embroidery stitches, mostly from books. My latest adventure has been learning to tat lace.

Summer Dreaming

I have taken a nice, long break from all things needlework this year. What a nice change for a spell catching up on my summer reading and enjoying the wonderful projects on stitchin fingers that others have made.

I've been slowly gathering fabrics and mulling over two new projects to begin as the weather changes this Fall. I'd like to make a crazy quilt in all black fabrics. This will be a long-term project to include tatted edgings and crocheted edgings made for the seams as I go along. The se… Continue

Haiku Crazy Quilt Journal

I found a lovely journal to record my notes and thoughts on my crazy quilting projects. The Haiku block that I had made was a perfect match for this project. I trimmed it to fit the journal dimensions and used a sharp needle and transparent nylon thread to secure it to the journal's front and back covers. I found a frog, commercially made, for use as a closure for the journal.

As I proceed with my crazy quilting, I will use this as a nice place to keep record of the types of ribbons, flosses an… Continue

Needlework Accessories Hussif

My project for this summer involving crazy quilting was to make a needlework accessories hussif. My first stop in my learning was to view the examples so generously shared on the web by others in an effort to learn about construction methods and items that can be found on a hussif.

I have a few vintage accessories, to include a silver thimble and laying tool, which I wanted to store in this hussif. Since they are antique, I wanted to work parts of the hussif in an "old-fashioned" style as well.… Continue

Crazy Quilt Journey

Hi Folks,

I first tried crazy quilting a little over eight years ago to mark the new millenium. I found books to study about the original crazy quilts and stitches from the 1800's and thought to make some small gifts for my own family. I found some fabric that had "2000" printed on it and this fabric is a part of each of the small items I made. I created a few small pillows as gifts for family members and a small quilt wall hanging.

I've recently become inspired to try crazy quilting again and… Continue

I think I would enjoy crazy quilting, but there are only so many hours in a week! I guess we have to choose what we love and enjoy looking at others' beautiful work.

The River Silks ribbon is also wonderful and doesn't fray - nor does the 2mm ribbon I buy from Thread Art. I think the Thread Gatherer ribbon is the most beautiful of the overdyes - I LOVE it!!!

Thank you for your nice comment on my page. I'm glad to meet you, too! I see you've met Melissa two comments down from mine. She is also a very good tatter, as well.

Thanks for your comment of my sewing caddy. I see you are making a hussif. Its on my TO-DO-in-the-future-list. Your has a nice red colour inside, the crochet things inside are nice, it will look really nice with your vintage accessories. And the outside looks really good.
