"All very pretty.  Love the color combinations.  The piping or beads (or whatever they are) are a nice addition."

"What an interesting combination of techniques.  The pulled thread enlivens the background without detracting from the colored embroidery.  and the flowers and leaves enliven the pulled thread.  Very very nice."

Profile Information

What textiles are you interested in?
I design and make embroideries. My favorites are pulled thread work and Hardanger embroidery. I am in the process of writing lesson materials, and some are already on my website. I started a little pulled thread work 30 years ago, but have been doing more of it the last 4 years.

Where did you learn your textile skills?
I've learned everything from books. Occasionally I find patterns on the internet. I learned basic surface embroidery from Jacqueline Enthoven's book. For pulled thread I like Moira McNeill & Fangel Winckler. For Hardanger I've used the new Anchor book publ 2005 , Sigrid Bright (Dover reprint), Gina Marion and a few leaflets I found in craft shops.

I am also an avid bobbin lace maker, designer and teacher. Please visit my new website. My patterns and books are available for sale at http://lynxlace.com/mybookspatterns.html

Needle Lace Tutorial

Posted on August 5, 2011 at 18:20 0 Comments

I have just created and published a needle lace tutorial with very basic stuff: how to set up, basic working methods, beginnings and endings, a few stitches, buttonholing the cordonnet/outline. I've posted it in two places. The content is the same, but they look a little different because the software is different.

A SIMPLE SAMPLER OF SOME BASIC PULLED THREAD STITCHES

Row 1:

The photo ptsamp3a is a basic sampler I suggest for a beginner to practice on. It is not a hang-on-the-wall type of sampler, but a record for the stitcher's own use, so you can really see what happens with the particular stitch. The sampler is 17" long inside the stitched borders and 9 1/4" wide. I propose to make this into 10 rows, with each row having 3 columns. Each row will be one of the most basic… Continue

Thank you Lorelie for the comment you left about my 3-d rose.

I have been looking really closely at the construction of Corded Detached Buttonhole needlelace for about 18 months.  I finally managed to establish how to produce even-shaping for shapes without a Cordonnet.  The results are quite unlike those produced by simply staggering the rows.

More on blog but have included image to explain:
