De-Stash Attack!

Posted on February 1, 2013 at 9:04 3 Comments

There comes a time in every stitcher's life where they look at their fabric stash and say "Time to de-stash!" My taste in designs has changed over the years, and I am tired of looking at the same patterns.  Luckily we are currently giving our bedroom some much needed love and that includes adding some color, I am making cool throw pillows - can't go wrong with a throw pillow - for our bed. But then I have decided to make some other stuff and sell it on Etsy to purge my collection…

A Work in Progress

For a number of years I have been trying to find a way to marry my love of needlecrafts and contemporary art.  This Jeff Koons/Takashi Murakami piece is one of the results.  I am about to sew this to the canvas and will post a picture when it is finally finished. This is a fun time for…

Stars in Progress

Wow! Putting together my quilts for quilting has to be my least favourite job. Especially as i don't have a very big space in which to assemble them. On the upside, I'm almost done, plus I am finally happy with the calico I have used. The last time I looked at this quilt I didn't love the calico because it reminded me of hospital bandages. But I think once I've quilted it, it will look fine. In hindsight, I should've used white though, that would have… Continue

Profile Information

What textiles are you interested in?
Quilting is my first love, but I also love embroidery and raised embroidery, cross stitch, needlepoint and making knick knacks. I am fascinated by using textiles for art.

I love paper piecing and making intricate blocks.
Where did you learn your textile skills?
From my mum and a close family friend. I also did a class in patchwork piecing years ago.
Let us know you are not a spammer. Is there anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group?
Sewing is a passion, as is art. I am here to learn and share.

I am an adult educator by profession and have travelled through my work. Discovering different cultures has kept me interested in textiles.

I also love cooking and I'm interested in ethical living.

Quilters Show and Tell is back on the net, and i got a hurried submission in just before I left, though not a lot of activity since then. If you can submit some quilts that would be great!

You're welcome, Liz! I hope the fair goes well for you. If you're interested in custom work, it can be a good place to gather potential customers, too. Just make sure you have lots of business cards. You can sometimes get more business outside of the fairs from people who saw your work IN them. :)

good luck!

Hi Liz, thanks for your comment. The whole work is my design. I wanted to make something free and fresh as you say. Have a great day!

Ugh, yes my machine weighs a ton too! One of my teachers asked me if I wanted to take it into the college and let them help me with it, but I can't see myself getting even a quarter of the way to the bus stop with it!!!

I haven't started trying to sell my work yet as I haven't really had time to start making things - I'm really behind with my college work and that has to come first. Will make a start during the summer, I hope, and also see if I can't get a machine as, by then, we will know how much £$£ is needed for time in Taiwan and by when.
