Hi Karen, While many of the stitches are perfectly suited to Aida others are better suited to other fabrics. I've used a small selection of fabrics so far, linen (in most cases), aida, felt and muslim. If you want one fabric to cover all, I would ...
Thanks...I think I'll invest in some Aida cloth...I'm always thinking 'surface design' and 'experimental' so anything and everything is open for playing...
I have some cheaper even weave fabric which I find is great for doing samples as I think if I muck up it doesn't matter. I also have a large piece of quilters muslin with a thin piece of wadding stitched to the back that I try out stitches that I ...
Some of the stitches are easier to do on evenweave fabric, but most can be done on anything that your needle will penetrate easily! Personally, I would not use silk paper for my samples. I would use it in an article.
I just uploaded by bullions...when I started out they looked like french knots on steriods but then after watching the video link Cinzia shared they did get a little better...take a look...and again here.

Where did you learn your textle skills?
I'm self-taught but my interested started with my great-grandmother who I started to learn to piece with after I graduated from college. After her death and that of my grandmother i honored them by making a quilt, all hand done except for putting on th binding. It took me 10 years to complete it between working and having children.
In 2004 I started getting serious about quilting and took weekly classes with Juanita Yeager at her home...Even though I don't take many workshops I do invest in books on technique and treat going throum them as I would a formal class.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
