Anne Wright replied to Judy Sheppard's discussion Needle point
"The  main picture may have been stitched in basketweave. It looks like tent stitch on the front and looks woven on the back. It distorts the canvas much less than the half cross or continental stitches, which look the same on the front. Here is…"

Judy Sheppard replied to Cynthia Carter's discussion Adding embroidery over a seam allowance in the group Hand Embroidery
"Hi Cynthia, I would probably go about this in one of two ways. Do you still have access to the inside seam allowance? If so  I would make sure that it is well ironed and the seam as flat as possible and then either tack the edges of the seam…"

Needle point

Hi Everyone,My girlfriend gave me a needlepoint canvas where the main part of the picture has been done all I have to do is the background. The main subjuct is worked in tent stitch, could I do the background in some different needlepoint stitches? I was thinking of picking 2 stitches and making the background look like a stripped wall paper. Would that work?Although I said the main subject (2 Siamese cats) is worked in tent stitch the back is totally different, it looks like an even weave over…See More

"re thinking on this: how many shafts do you have? if you have 8 or more you could do a 5  or a 6 end  satin and use the extra  2 shafts for selvedge. with 16 shafts you could do 8 end satins."

Doing great!  Practicing my stitches.  I live just outside of Oak Ridge, TN, USA.  I'm retired and love doing just what I want, not what I have to do.  I love needlework and would love to someday spin and weave.  I'm also an avid reader of mysteries.  Always have two or more books going at the same time.  Summers find me in my flower gardens or just sitting in the swing with my cats.  Look forward to getting to know you and your work
