Hi Jane, Don't you just love how those things work. There have been times when I have agonised over things for weeks or months, and then suddenly one tiny spark of inspiration just puts it all into place, often totally unrelated to the original id...

Carol-Anne, What a wonderful idea. The best of both worlds - you get to do all three, but can pace yourself time wise. Three separate pieces would look great like this.Or you could even consider framing them as one whole large piece with a matboar...

Thankyou Elizabeth and Lisa for raising your concerns. Please do not be deflated or intimidated by those of us who have taken the given designs further. The fans were supposed to appeal to a range of criteria - those more advanced could work on th...

Hi Betty, glad to see you got the photo on here. I left a comment in the group discussions letting people know you have started your design, just in case they don't realise. Great start, I love how you have balanced the designs out and joined the ...

Profile Information

What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
I love all things creative, both traditional and contemporary. It always amazes me how seemingly opposite artforms can influence each other and provide a new spark of inspiration.
My main passions in the textile world are antique Japanese silk and Japanese embroidery.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I have recently embarked on a course of study in traditional Japanese embroidery with an accredited instructor.
Otherwise, apart from courses at art school many years ago in drawing and painting, I am self taught in most of my varying creative endeavours.

Hey Iris,
Just cant tell you how much I appreciate all your comments as well as the beautiful pictues on your page. Your cords are fantastic -- I began to do an independant study phase piece but now I am thinking perhaps I should rethink it :).

Your goldwork phase is absolutely lovely and I would not have advise doing Karahana instead - you were able to re-enforce many techniques of the earlir phases and your stitching is really lovely. Karahanna was a major undertaking that took mighty concentration. That aside, Karahanna taught me that I love gold work. Now, when I approach any new piece the first thing i look for where the gold/metal work will go in.

Congratlaions on starting the Cranes. I havent decided if I'm going to work that piece or not but think it is absolutely beautiful. Please keep us updated on your progress!

Morning Iris thanks for your message I am stitching Karahana at the moment as well as stitching cords, I love stitching with silk. I really love the beads they are so lovely and look so much better for real than any picture. I have finished my Phase I beading and I am working on Phase II. Some times I have to decide which to do :-)) Hope you get all your designs finished by 2011 look forward to seeing pictures. Talk to you soon Sue

Thank you Iris. Yes I love messing around with paints/ dyes and making my own tissue/muslin papers [on a good day in the garden!] I like to work with the paper, backed with either calico or felt. I have made bags, book covers, boxes etc..... The view on the picture was from my apt. in Tenerife. I watched the sun set each evening ove the island of La Gomera. When we sold the apt. the estate agent wanted to buy it but I didn't part with it. It has proved to be my most admired piece. Must do more !!!!

yes I amd referring to the 3 very bottom waves. I will try doing it the way you said, but I want to continue with my Chrysanthemum Field first, then must really work on Embroidery Sculpture, I won't be beaten!!
Will let you know when I get round to it. Thanks for your advice.
When the world exhibition was held in England a phase X class was held so you might well be lucky and have one in Australia in 2011. I learnt so much at that class and it really helped me with completing my phase X piece. I have just had it framed and it looks fantastic, I will post a photo of the framed piece on the website when I have taken a one of it. I live in Guernsey which is a small island 90 miles south of england but have my pictures framed in England and as my framer was coming to the island on holiday this week she brought it over for me as she was coming on the boat with her car.
I have several pieces waiting to be worked on but the next piece I will be working on is 'Conception'. Mr Tamaru and Kazumi are running a class in England next month and I have enrolled to do the advanced class which is Conception and also the teacher's class which is working on 2 Fractral pieces. One of mine is a lily and the other a pattern. I must look at this and decide on colouring and stitches to work it in before attending the class.

Nice to talk to you .
Betty

Just looked at your beautiful photos. I started Embroidery Sculpture when I did my teachers course 20 monthes ago in Cambridge. It got left when I returned as I wanted to complete my phase X piece and then moved on to others.
When I returned to Embroidery Sculpture I have great difficulty in doing the 10 gold two and fro, I don't seem to keep the angle and the gold doesn't lay as nicely as I would like. Did you have difficulty with this bit or can you give me any hints on this? I completed this part but am not satisfied with it and it will have to come out again!

Please do use the book, I think your idea is a brilliant one. If you need any advice on how it is made, let me know. It was made a few years ago so my memory is a little faded but I can analyse the book to refresh myself.

Cords have been on the back burner while I finished VF and now because I have a bad dose of bead lust!

I can't make it this August as I have a prior engagement. I'm disappointed to miss it and there are not many things I would put before JE but having finally talking my partner into marrying me, I didn't think asking for a postponement would go down to wekk. :-D

It is so odd having cyber firends, it feels like we are all so close but then something reminds you that we are thousands of miles apart. Literally on the other side of the planet. Your comment on my page says it was posted at 2.19 on 5th June, here it is only about 4 on 4th June. You are writing from the future - very Dr Who!!

Tresure ship on meiji blue sounds like a lovely idea. I think you should email the centre until they give in and find some fabric for you. I'm sure you'll enjoy it when you get there, which isn't as far away as you think it's only 9 and you are on 7.
Camellias gave me some trouble. I think it's quite a difficult technique at least it is the one I find difficult. Other people in our group love stitching it.

No more specific thoughts on the kanji design. But I have made some decisions. I've decided on the fabric, on the foundations and how they will work - going to have them fading out as they go up the design, treasures will be in bright jewel colours and I'm going to get some nice bright metallics. Oh, well, maybe I do have some specific thoughts after all.

I am getting very excited about kusudama, not long now. And it will be so nice to meet all my stitching friends, some for the first time.

Enjoy your class on 22nd, happy stitching
