I like this very much. I have made purses before but this looks like a different cut, not just a square. Can you explain the layout please ?

This is glorious Jane. Congratulations. Grace

They look great sweet bags for the tree but I like the 'story' about the gamblers purse never being closed.

Stumpwork Leaves

As there is some discussion on the Stumpwork Group's page as to whether you should use Buttonhole Stitch or Overcasting on the edges, I am posting a photo of my leaves worked with overcasting stitch. I did the first one absolutely right and because of rushing made an error in the colour of the central vein in the second leaf. I don't think I am going to worry about it. So far I haven't added the side veins. Grace

Introduction

Hallo everybody, I have only just joined this group. My name is Grace and I am a dedicated embroideress. I love almost every embroidery technique and also do a small amount of patchwork. I am also interested in the history of embroidery and am really dedicated to working and using old little-known stitches. Does any one else feel that some of the stitches we used to use are almost unknown today? On the other hand I also love to experiment with some of the new things we have nowadays - Angelina f… Continue

Thanks for your offer to send notes on the coifs. I would always welcome info on them as I have been studying the ladies coifs for years. Never would think that there is nothing left for me to learn! I spent hours at the V&A with my nose inches from lovely coifs, taking photos and such, and could always use notes from another researcher's perspective!

Grace, it was Mothers' Day here in Australia on 11th May, and I decided to gift to Mum the little fairy shoe I made recently based on your pattern in Stitch magazine. She was absolutely delighted to have a piece of my work, but now I guess I'll have to make another for myself to keep. Thanks for the inspiration,
Christine

Thank you for giving me permission to copy and use the photos of your work on my website. When I have it published I'll let you know so you can go and look. Meanwhile, One of your pieces, a sampler, has spawned at least 4 daughters, one of which I am working on currently. Seeing your work and MargB's has been so stimulating for me. I have to finish the piece and figure out how to use my digital camera, then I'll post a picture.
And I agree, very little pulled thread work is being done anywhere, so far as I can see. And I want to change that.

I've said before that I admire your work. I have been working on putting my website together, but it will take several months before it is ready to publish. I have most of the pulled thread pages set up. I am writing to ask permission to copy some of your photos and post them on my website. I would post them with whatever form of your name you specify I should use. Once it is up, if you see your work displayed in a manner that you dislike I will take it down. I won't take any of your photos unless I have your permission.

I am hoping to spur interest in pulled thread by posting photos of contemporay work of different kinds, so viewers can see at a glance the different ways pulled thread stitches can be used in a design. Your pieces are very fine examples.

Please think about it and let me know what you decide.

thanks Grace for the speedy reply! I've had a few false starts. This time I outlined the leaf and am now covering it with a buttonhole (I like the look myself) and then I'm going to couch the centre vein after because I had trouble covering the outline where the centre vein met the outline.

Hi Grace, I saw our comment about Angelina fires in Inspirations magazine, Issue 61. Loved the bag.. I had seen the fibres previously but only experienced them over the weekend and my mind went into overdrive thinking aout the possibilities!
I also learnt how to make silk paper and then of course I started to think about all of the possibilities of combining Angelina and silk paper - will it never end???? I hope not!

I would be very happy if you would send me the instructions for the trees.
My e-mail address is: mmieras@zeelandnet.nl.
I'm dreaming about making a crazy landscape quilt as background for the trees, maybe with stumpwork mushrooms, flowers etc.
