BTW... I meant to say... I know exactly what you mean about a kitten looking like a bat with big ears and a v shaped face. I have seen kittens look that way too at a certian age. It takes awhile for them to grow into those big ears. :) Adorable, isn't it!
He is really gorgeous, he is a Siberian cat. I chose him when he was a kitten from a photo a breeder sent me in Minnesota. When he was old enough she put him on a plane and I picked him up at the airport.
I needed a Russian name and Kilmouski sounded good. LOL
I wrote a short story about the Kilmouski family being the official mousers to the Czars of Russia. So I designed a coat of arms for them. From that coat of arms I made him a sterling silver shield to wear on his collar. He has it on in his photo that you see on my profile. On it is a Siberian cat rearing up and a 18K gold star. The Star is symbolic of the cattery I bought him from, Starberian. On the front of his shield I hand engraved the Kilmouski house motto. It is in Russian and in Cyrillic script. It translates.... DEATH TO ALL MICE. On the top of the shield is his name. On the back of it I engraved his nick-name Killy, my name, home phone number and his date of birth.
OOPS... I forgot to tell you that I am a metalsmith. Stitching is still sort of a new hobby.
So now you probably thinking I am totally crazy and saying to yourself... Now I know why they warn you about meeting people on the internet.
Yes, the basic pattern for the construction of my box was taken from Janet Edmunds book although it was greatly enlarged, mine needed to be big to take all the letters. You will see the pattern in the book, although you won't recognise it as being anything like mine! For me, I found the construction difficult and fiddly, but then I'm not experienced in sewing. I'm sure you would manage perfectly well - give it a go!
You do well to travel so far for your workshops. Mind you I would too to see 'Double Trouble' - they are wonderful aren't they.

Hi Gaye,
Thank you for your lovely comments, yes I am British and am currently living in Perth, Scotland.
I enjoyed the decoration of the box but struggled a bit constructing it. The box is made all in one piece, a bit like a cross shape, using cotton and pelmet vilene sandwich, next stitched to strengthen and then sewn up into the chest shape. The panels are all made seperately with more vilene and the layered collages. These panels are then finally stitched to the box.
