I have some vintage, hand embroidered table cloths made by my grandmother. I'd like to see if someone could help identify the embroidery pattern and possibly give me a rough date. I draft patterns, sew, quilt, am able to knit, crochet, embroider - most all needle skills I've at least tried.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
Long line of needle craftswomen... genetic I think! But a lot is self-taught as well.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
teacher, working on an advanced degree, happily married, two sons, one daughter-in-law, and three grandkids!
Thanks for your kind comment about my Navy son. We are quite proud of him although he his very humble about his serving in the Navy and his achievements while in there. Mark is now in Tomahawk School and then he will be stationed aboard the USS Howard out of San Diego, CA.
Wow to all three photos! I envy you your stash; I just love neatly arranged rows of fabrics and threads, it just makes you itch to play with them!
As for your cloth...I've never seen one like that - it is very unusual. I would guess it was stitched around the sixties era. I have no idea who the designer would be. It is possible your grandmother had a set of transfers that she ironed on to the cloth for embroidery. Don't suppose you would consider selling it to me for my collection?
Hey Gadget! I am always delighted when I get an instant reply to an email from someone on the other side of the world. I wonder what they are doing, what time it is, and what the weather is like, where they are! I'm at my PC of course, in Melbourne at 1.15 am Monday morning. Should be in bed, but you know how it is once you get on the Stitchin Fingers site!
OK, I guess I forgive you for cutting up your cloth - if there are stains on it, well, at least you will recycle part of it. I would love to see your photos - why not email them direct to me? Unless you have an online photo album, I don't know how you put photos on to this forum. People do it, but I haven't figured that out yet.

OMG!!! I can't believe you would contemplate cutting up a family heirloom to make a jacket!! Sacrilege - LOL! I'm obsessed with vintage needlework and have a collection of over 200 hand embroidered tablecloths, some of which are nearly 100 years old. Do you have an online photo of your grandmother's cloth that I could look at? I can sometimes make a good guess at how old something is, just by the design.
Welcome to stitchin fingers. Take your time looking around, and join in when and where you like. There is a lot of inspiration, and a lot of people who are willing to answer questions. Enjoy.
