Where did you learn your textile skills?
my daughter
Is there anything else you'd like other members of Stitchin' Fingers to know about you? Please feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself by way of introduction.
I am retired and need stuff to do, so my daughter suggested I learn to embroider like she does. I began June 2012 and really enjoy it. I would like to know how to get really good at it and have my creations look awesome as yours do. Mine look like a kid did it so far, tee hee, but I like what I have accomplished to date.

Hi Elly,

Thank you for your nice compliments. The design is by Trish Burr. Do you mean the burgundy blossoms? Here I have described how I made them. On my blog I have described how I did all different elements. Just browse backwards or search in the blog archive. If you have any questions, please ask. I'll be happy to answer them.

Have a great Sunday!

Marjolein.

Hello Elly, thank you for friending me. I loved to make the Swan Cottage but put a lot of my own fantasy in it, If you are in trouble with something, let me know I will help you if I can.

Hi Elly!

NO... I certainly don't mind all the questions. I receive well over 6,000 emails daily. To blend the colors of the petals, you would stitch the beige tips of the Dogwood petals first leaving room to overlay with the soft pink center. This gives the dimensional effect. As I draw these by hand and then use software to digitize, the layering is completed inside the software. I STILL HAVE TO MANUALLY STITCH the design using my mouse... but the effect is still the same. All the software implements is the transferring of the file to my embroidery machine format. You still have to know how to lay the stitches down on the screen.... as well as any underlay stitching that is required for machine embroidery, but we don't use in hand embroidery. I hope to turn most of these designs into print outs for many to use in hand embroidery soon!!

Dear Elly, thank you for your kind words about Swan Cottage. You asked if this is a pattern. This is picture printed on Cotton by Di van Niekerk in Cape Town. I filled it in with silk ribbon and all kind of threads and little beads by my own fantasy. I made a lot of these and use some stumpwork as well. The Fairies are the same technique.

Hi Elly,   you ask how we learn the new stitches    well Sharon has a weekly stitch for us, if you go to groups and join tast group you will find out all about it, a new stich is added every tuesday, it is great fun and I usually just do a small sample but some produce wonderful pieces, it is worth looking at Christina`s page as every week she stitches a new mandela
