My suggestion would be to leave the threads in the sun for a period of time. This is a trick that my mum taught me for removing smoke odor from woolen items and it works a treat. Hope it helps with your dilemma.

Well, I have just had too many other things going on and really had enough thread anyway. So I gave all the smelly thread to a friend that smoked - problem solved. Thanks so much for all the valuable ideas. I'll remember them for other times when ...

Irish spring deodorant soap - ONLY the original scent, not the Aloe or anything else - will eliminate odors and also kill mildew if the object is placed in an airtight bag with the bar of soap - still in its box - for a period of time. Depending o...

Apparently if you put the floss in a large air tight bag with a box of (clean) cat litter, the litter absorbs the smell of smoke. It works with lots of things that have a strong smell like books etc. Failing that, I'd be inclined to hand wash it.

Nil Odor brings back memories for me. I was not aware that it was still on the market. We used to carry it on all flights just in case we had a passenger barf and miss the barf bag. It certainly worked well for us. I am sure it would help with the...

Forgot to say - leave the soap in the box!

the mesh bag on the back porch was quite full. So maybe it was just packed too tight for it to be effective. The thread is still in the paper wrappers - you know, where the thread is loosely looped about 6 inches long and has small paper bands on ...

I first learned to stitch and love embroidery from my mother when I was a very young girl. I took to it quickly and easily, although I never really learned to sew - you know like with a machine or things that become something like clothes or bed coverings. My career, however, is as an artist and art teacher - paper, pencils, paints, & canvas. My true love is animal portraits and altered assemblage art and altered books. I have not had time for much stitching for several years but have recently returned to it. It brings such delight to me and I am interested in finding creative ways to incorporate textiles and stitching into my altered art.
I have added a beginning embroidery class to my teaching schedule just for the fun of it.
I have a website showing some of my art if you are interested in taking a peek
