Not going to get the WIPs finished by the end of Nov as hoped, but have at least made progress on 3 of them.=)Nov 30
Profile Information
What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
Freestyle, stumpwork and raised embroidery. Also enjoy counted work of varying types and some ribbon work. I've done a lot more than the 40 pieces on the photos function here. To see the rest, please follow the link below to my Webshots album, where I just counted 150 finished pieces plus 2 WIPs, as well as some paper and card based artwork.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
From books, magazines and kits. I took up stitching, starting with cross stitch then moving on to hardanger and freestyle etc, whilst seriously ill with CFS/ME. I've totally recovered now, thanks to effective treatment by Mickel Therapy, but I keep it up just the same. I've also done some formal embroidery study 08/09 and was introduced to all sorts of fascinating new techniques.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
Sorry, I don't use the 'Friends' function, beyond having a way to communicate with the network administrator when needed.
Oh ok, I was worried regular cottons are to tightly weaved. I have plenty of those. I thought you had to use loose weave or linens or something. Great now I can start trying again:):):)
I found that as I wrapped around the wire the area I was stitching down through was getting more bare, because the stitches are so close, is this normal or am I possibly using too big of a needle?
Elizabeth, thank you so much for the suggestions. I feel silly not thinking about using fabric of the same color as the thread, I can see how that would helped tremendously when I made the ladybug, black would of blended verses the white I used. So what is your favorite fabric to use for Stumpwork? For the smaller items you'll be cutting out like the ladybug? Again I really appreciate your help.
Elizabeth, your work is stunning. I love all your Cross Stitch work, That was the needlework I did before learning crazy quilting. I have one Cross stitch project I am working on now for my kids bathroom.
Your Stumpwork is just amazing. I love your Ladybug. i had gotten a book from the library that showed how to make the ladybug, I must say mine was no where near as good as yours. i had trouble when cutting it out so that my base fabric was not seen and I am still trying to learn to lay my stitches side by side all nice and smooth.
All your work is fantastic. I sure hope to learn stumpwork and raised embroidery so I can add them to my crazy quilts. You are very inspiring:)
Hello Elizabeth,
Thanks for your attention and answering my questions on discussion about my photos.
For your information, I did not touched any ( I dellivered 5 at a time } of my photos.
I was only arranging and deleting my former profile as what you advised me to do.
Didn't you feel strange on seeing a comment on "snow white" while there is another photo beside?
Thanks anyway and hope everything will go well.
Hi Elizabeth, good to hear about someone else living in Asia! I work for a multilateral organization. At the moment I am project manager of a large earthquake reconstruction project in Sichuan province. Cheers, Mara
Thanks for the info on profile pages. Actually, I did know all that you relayed, but I thought that I've seen some very creative profile pages that did not appear to have come from the theme selection.
Thanks for answering my abbreviation question. I went online and found an acronym site as well.
Here's a techy question for you: How have you and some other stitchers gotten the lovely pictures on your profile pages? I have figured out how to change the color scheme, but have no idea how to add the lovely pictures.
I just spent some very pleasurable time looking at your blog. Your work is gorgeous! I also read all of you posts on C&G. It sounds like taking the program in a college is a lot of work done very fast! At least as a long-distance student it shouldn't be quite so hectic. :o) I am planning on enrolling either in July or August, and will be sure to let you know. I will post about it on my blog. :o) I hope you have a wonderful trip to Taiwan. Lisa
Elizabeth. I have just sent those Stumpwork details off to Amber and have noted how to get in touch with her so her details can now be deleted from the Stumpwork page. Grace
