Elizabeth replied to Carol-Anne's discussion How did you stitch your tassel? in the group Japanese Embroidery
"Hi Carol-Anne Having just finished Himotaba, I thought I'd add my comments on this. I did the extended version of the design and stitched the tassel design as printed. I used flat silk - but I can't remember whether I used 1F or 0.75F -…"

Just completely hooked on traditional Japanese embroidery at the moment...

Sensu complete!

Just finished Sensu for phases 2 & 3 (photo posted). Around 140 hours in this one.
Really enjoyed the geometric effects: tie-dye, shippo and flax leaf effect, and also doing the shading on the cord and the chrysanthemum (which wasn't quite as hard as I expected). Found the imitation wicker rather challenging though... Overall quite pleased with the result ;-)

Hi Elizabeth, long time no speak.  I hope all is well with you.  What are you stitching now?  I finished Loving Couple and have begun Camellias but the long and short stitching is by far the biggest challenge that I have met.  It is 'resting' at the moment while I do other things, mostly decorating but that is finished now so hopefully I can get back to stitching :-)

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your gift. (Just as I'm typing this, Aaron Copland's Simple Gifts has come on the radio and made me smile all the more).

You can ask about Loving Couple. I very reluctantly put it out of sight so that I could get on with Riches and I haven't got it back out since. 'He' is nearly finished; 'She' is not yet begun. I don't think it will take much to finish when I do return to it.

I'm still not stitching but I have a feeling that will soon pass. I haven't had much time to stitch even if I'd wanted to this past week and I'm beginning to resent not having the time.

How is your stitching? What are you doing at present?

Hi,Elzaeh,
I did not know you are on the stitchin fingers until now.
I did phase 1 in April with Denise and Jane.I am doing quite well but I have struggled with flat silk so I often take stitches out and do it again and again. I have not learned pink flowers and cord.I started thinking about phase 2 now.

Thank you Elizabeth - I loved stitching this piece. I'm sure it'll be at the gmex next time round if you are going to visit.

I began my cords in March (although I have not done much on them since then). I also chose the extended version.

Yes, I do find the anticipation almost as good as the stitching but I try not to plan too far ahead or I find myself iching to start a new piece rather than focus on the current Phase :-)

Beautiful work Elizabeth. Are you stitching Karahana on black or red silk? I stitched mine on black as I like the contrast between the gold threads and the black background fabric. For phase II, I stitched "Golden Fan" and used these colors for the cords. The pieces are hung on the same wall and complement each other nicely. I also chose to stitch the extended version as I liked the shape of the tassel better.

Thanks for your kind comments on my photos. I've already started Karahana - managed to do one large petal and a few smaller elements of the design in the 5 days I spent with Jackie, who certainly is an excellent teacher. Although that design will take me some months to complete, I've already started to plan my cords (extended version) by buying some coloured pencils so I can do a bit of colouring in to get an impression of how to arrange the colours. Don't you find the anticipation of starting a new piece is almost as good as stitching the piece in hand?

You should be pleased, you have done amazingly well. I also enjoyed the geometric effects on Phase II and look forward to revisiting them. Your stitching is superb. So, what is next for you? Karahana? Embroidery sculpter?
