What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
My first love is crazy quilting, followed closely by machine needle felting. I am becoming interested in fabric and fiber collage, and I would like to pursue this more. I have combined crazy quilting and felting on a project or two, with results that I liked.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
About 15 years ago I saw a photo of an old crazy quilt in a magazine and fell in love with it. With no other sewing skills than those learned in home ec classes decades before, I decided to make a crazy quilt. I bought Judith Montano's first book and took off. Since then I have taken lots of classes, mostly at the Crazy Quilt Society's annual meeting in Omaha, NE (USA). My favorite teachers are Martha Green, Carole Samples, Cindy Thury Smith, Lynn Tolles, Judith Montano, Lisa Caryl, Betty Pillsbury, and Vickie Brown. (I hope I didn't miss anyone!) Lisa Caryl is the world's best kept secret in the crazy quilt world -- if you ever have a chance to take a class from her, do it!
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
I never thought of myself as a creative person until I started crazy quilting. I am so grateful that I saw that first photo of a crazy quilt that got me started on this journey of making beautiful things with fabric, etc.

Chez Boo Rae

My blog link is Chez Boo Rae. It's called that because my middle name is Rae and my college friends called me Boo Rae. I have no idea where it came from except it sounds a little like Boo Radley from To Kill a Mockingbird. The "Chez" part is a spoofy snobby thing, just to silly.

Chez Boo Rae has not been updated in quite a while as I get distracted easily (ADD). That's why I am a crazy quilter, I think. I can do something for 5 minutes and… Continue

Hi Donna,

It has been many years since we have seen each other. I am still on your CQ mail list and think about everyone quite often. I am still CQing and Marci and I started a local CQ club that has been meeting for about 6 years now. Maybe we will hook up again some day. It is good to know that some of us old time CQers are still practicing our skills. I found a round robin the other day that we did together. It was the "layered stitches RR" that we did over the Internet. I still haven't put a border on that yet. One of my UFO's! Do you remember the "Sheep" story? I told it at the Wichita class that Carole Samples did sponsered by Cindy Gibson many Moons ago? Well, if you do, Marci and I have gotten a lot of road out of that one. We still give each other sheep items and fabric. We keep saying that we will have to do some sort of quilt challenge with all the fabric we have collected.

That's great Donna! We will look forward to seeing you there. The five of us are taking the three days of classes with Carole. I would like to do all those wonderful stacked stitches she does.

I have to admit enjoying the SRE more than the thread embroidery. I think the classes will help me.

Hi Donna, it's great to hear from you! We had a great time in Wichita. We have plans to return in November and take classes from Carole Samples. Val Bothell with the Pink Bunny has organized the retreat. There are five of us going and we are excited. Of course, we will have to make a stop at Julie's shop.
