I'm De from Oklahoma and came to CQing from a mixed media background. I'm new, new, new to CQ International (and relatively new to CQing) so please let me know if I blunder with anything - I just want to join in on the fun and learn and share what...
Crazy quilting, especially purses, small art quilts, etc. I've never done a full-sized quilt, but I'm fairly new to this medium!
Where did you learn your textle skills?
From Martha Green, CQer extraordinaire! Also have taken classes from Betty Pillsbury, Judith Mantano at the Pink Bunny's Victorian CQ Conference in Wichita, Sherrill Lewis, The Bead Ranch, and will be attending the CQ Conference in Omaha for the first time this year.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
After I retired, I took my very first CQ class from Martha Green and I was instantly "hooked"!! I love everything about CQing! I do feel that I came to this wonderful art form very late in my life, but I work on some aspect almost everyday in an effort to learn all I can. Everyone I've met is so giving and sharing of their talents - it is a wonderful community of women artists!
I come from a mixed media art background and love incorporating some of those skills into my CQ artwork. And, since my website store is filled with images that I print on fabric for artists, I love to use the lovely ladies, children, ephemera images in my pieces.
I am sorry but I can't seem to find the website but here is one that you may like to have a look at they may beable to get you some anyway. http://www.vintagevogue.com/onlinestore/catalog.htm Hugs and smiles A
Hello thank you so very much for your beautiful comments. The clasps are easy but a little tricky sometimes to put on. The main think is that you have the top of your purse a little bigger (wider) than the clasp width as its much easier to attach and you can gather the frabic in. The clasps can be purchased from craft shops I generally purchase mine online I can look up the website for you and send the information to you later.
Once you have finished your purse sew up your side seams dont worry about the raw edge of the top as this will be hidden by the frame. I then gathers around the top of my purse making sure the sides will sit into the corners of the purse frame (frame opened - like a wide mouth) then I tack the frame onto my purse throught the small holes not every hole at this stage about every third hole make sure your gathers are set neatly around the hole opening. You now need to sew all the way around with small seed beads into every hole this time use beads that match the colour of your purse I sometimes use gold or silver its up to you. Now the clasp is finished and you have a beautiful purse you can add a chain to the top if you want as the clasp has small opening to add a chain.
I hope this is some help but if you dont understand please let me know and I will try and make that part more easier to understand here is my email address andneil@xnet.co.nz Hugs and smiles Andrea NZ
thanks for the welcome. I googled the bead ranch you mentioned and it looks interesting. I'd love to meet sometime, but I'm just getting back into stitchery, lets wait a bit so I can get some stuff made so we can "show and tell". Thanks Libby
