I live in Japan and the don't seem to have them here either, but I was able to find one on E-bay in the US and have it shipped to me here. Don't remember what I paid, but it was affordable. Hope that helps.

I love textiles and have a huge stash. I sew and embroider by hand and machine (both free machine and digitized). I make clothes and household items. I quite often do patchwork and sometimes dye my own cloth. I knit and crochet and experiment with just about anything that has to do with fabric or thread.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I learned sewing from my grandmother, knitting from my mother, studied pattern drafting at college, and learned quite a few things on my own. Years back I had a little tee-shirt design business and since I've moved to Japan, I've studied a handful of kimono dyeing techniques. Mostly I like shibori (tie-dyeing) and roketsusome (a brush-dyed wax-resist process). I also spent 5 years with a Japanese sensei learning to make hanging scrolls. And now I am currently learning to digitize computerized embroidery designs. Mostly I am interested in doing the kind of designs that are used on Japanese wedding kimonos.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
I've had a blog about my life in Japan for about a year and one of my visitors was a woman named Jane who has a blog called "Nuido -- a student's journey". Since then, I've been reading her blog as well. It's quite interesting and offers a non-resident non-Japanese perspective on the love of Japanese textiles and culture. Recently I started clicking the links on her blog and that is how I found this group.
Hi Cindy, I just love your blog, you certainly have some interesting things to write about. I hope you have a .lovely Christmas and a bright and adventurous 2009. Best wishes Bev.
Hi Cindy, I have just seen your artical on Gagaku, how I envy you to be able to attend those kind of functions. The costumes of the dancers looked exquisite.
Are they embroidered or painted or woven fabrics?
Bev.
Hello Cindy, I have just read you most interesting blog. I have a son living and teaching english in Toyohashi. My husband and I visited Japan in April this year, we spent only 1 day in Kyoto, unfortunately that is nowhere near enough time. Lucky for me I have been to Japan a couple of times and love it, unfortunately I have never had enough time to visit the Nishijin area, that is certainly on my list for our next visit, hopefully next autumn. Maybe I could visit you then, who knows.Your visit to the Kimono warehouse must have been wonderfull, I actually do own a beautifull Bridal Kimono with lots of Goldwork embroidery.I am really hooked on Japanese embroidery, have been doing it for about 5 years now.I'm happy I found you on SF. Bev, Aust.
Hey, Cindy, Do you want to share any of your pictures, designs with us? As you can probably tell, I'm interested in what has been done in the past and different interpretations, including your own. Anne in NC
