Profile Information

What aspect of textiles are you interested in?
mostly I work hand embroidery now, after an entire lifetime on my sewing machine I have completely gone off it and have not given it an airing in ages. now I find the quiet and rhythm of hand stitching pleasing.
Design mystifies me, I can choose the first colour but not the next, but I can execute stitches with ease.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I live in New Zealand, my textile skills came from watching my mother at an early age, although it was the lady next door that taught me how to knit, and then learning with some really talented people from all over the world. I belong to Embroiderers Guild and that really is great for learning new techniques and meeting interesting people.
Anything else you want to say to introduce yourself to the group??
I enjoy winter, its a great time of the year, sitting in front of the fire, stitching away without the nagging feeling that I should be out enjoying the fresh air. My grandpuppy [dd's long hair chihuahua] Tif sits on my shoulders either watching what I am doing or snoring depending on the time of day. She used to sit on my lap while I stitched but the threads tickled her ears.
I am seriously inspired by all that I see on this group. I don't know an awful lot about it just yet but I am sure I will learn more.

TAST

Taking the plunge and have joined TAST [Take a Stitch Tuesday] I have been thinking about creating a personal stitch dictionary for some time and I thought this would be a good way to get started. I am very much process, I can execute stitches by following directions but not so good at using them for a creative process so this will be really great.

Working a stitch at a time. Jennifer Rochester wrote a very timely article in the latest edition of… Continue

Hi Christina thank you for your welcome, no I don't belong to any group, I did go to a stitching group that was held at Spotlight a long time ago but they stopped having them never did find out why.I see in the comment from Anne she was talking about the Bulls Museum I know it well I lived in Wanganui for years and went to the Museum often. I have one of my girls living in Sanson, one in Fielding, my son in Palmerston North, and my other two girls in Auckland. Sadly only one is interested in stitching, I have 14 Grandchildren and only 4 of them girls that so far have not been at all interested in it but I am living in hope.

Hi again
The display at the Bulls Museum runs until the end of August. The Museum is usually open every afternoon from 1pm until 3pm and on the weekend open Sat & Sun from 10.30 - 3pm. It is quite a fun display there are a few quilts, old cottons, pin cushions, knitting, crochet, sewing machines and notions. No I do not belong to an Embroidery Guild.

Hi Christina
Thanks for your comment. I just love pieces of old fabric if I come across it, also I like using old ties. I just dabble with sewing, whatever takes my fancy at the time. Can't say I particularly excel in any one thing. Even did a bit of stump work last year! I like 'old' things and at the Bulls Museum we presently have a display called "Make do and Mend' - how our mothers used to patch and turn sheets and collars, darn socks, cut down clothes to make children's garments etc etc. I also like collecting old embroidery. Must get cracking and put something on my Stitchinfingers page! Cheers, Anne
