"Arlee, you make me blush! I just want the newbies to know that as long as you have a machine with good tension, this free motion stuff is just a matter of practice. This quilt was a bit of a stretch for me design-wise. No pattern, just free cut and…"

What textiles are you interested in?
hand and machine quilting; textile printing, dyeing (and recently, shibori techniques; embroidery; mixed media with paper and textiles combined; knitting and crochet; bead crochet; clothing and accessory sewing
Where did you learn your textile skills?
The earliest was sewing and knitting from female family, and friends' mothers, then self taught for many years, then textile studies in college. Currently: online classes, and books and magazines. Occassional live classes (usually at quilt shows.)
Is there anything else you'd like other members of Stitchin' Fingers to know about you? Please feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself by way of introduction.
I have recently joined a wonderful group of women from around the world who "follow" textile artist Jude Hill. Most of what she teaches/ shares with us is slow, thoughtful, personal symbolism in hand stitch. I am interested in finding my own stitch voice.

Cheryl, thank you for looking at my embroideries and for your nice comments. Yes, our styles are very different, and that is what I love about this web site. I appreciate and love all types of embroidery and handwork. You are very creative and on a path to define your own brand of embroidery. You have an eye for colors and shapes that work well together. I, on the other hand, place more emphasis on learning as many specific skills as I can. I copy other people's designs and ideas. Creating takes a lot of time and energy (and artistic ability), and because I have a very demanding job, I do not have enough time for my embroidery as it is. (No time for keeping a blog either, like so many on this web site do.) I do love the more creative embroidery, but have never really tried it myself. Maybe when I retire in 4 years.  That is cool that you lived in Greenbelt, MD. I'm always amazed at what a small world we live in, esp. now that we have the internet.

i like your light touch with the frankenstitch and the fabric combination you used, it achieved both contrast and harmony

i'm still working on mine - i'll post progress here or on my blog

that's a shame about the lack of posting on your advanced frankenstitch - out of a dozen or so on our beginners f/s only 3 posted regularly and one occasionally, i noticed that most of them weren't regular bloggers so i guess they weren't in the habit of posting - i'm surprised that jude, arlee & other online tutors have time for any of their own work, keeping up with the posts must be very time consuming

i hope you will share some of your frankenstitch work here, what i've done is on my blog

see you around :-)

hi cheryl

i recently joined stitchin fingers in my search for something to fill the void left by not doing the magic diaries with jude & not having access to Sew - i can't wait to start  'contemporary boro part 2'

i've just been doing arlee's latest frankensetitch, which i notice you did a while back - i'm looking forward to using that on some cloth weaves and WIPs

it's good to see some familiar names here and plenty going on
