Display Window at Our Library

Posted on November 2, 2009 at 21:05 1 Comment

The lace group I belong to here in town is called the Lighthouse Lacers and we decorate the display window at the library every year. On one of the weekends we had an open house which followed an article that we had in the newspaper. We have now gained a few new members and one of them wanted to learn bobbin lace. The president of our group suggested me, so now I have already started teaching her and she just loves it. I am going to put a few of the pictures of the window here, but first… Continue

Thank you, Barbara, for your kind invite to become friends . . . how lovely!! All the tatting ladies on stitchin fingers are going to love your new photos! Such pretty, delicate motifs that probably wouldn't take so very long to learn. Last time I tried, I was all fingers and thumbs! Oh, well . . . I'm happy leave it to the experts! x x Barb

I think everything you do is lovely, but I'm especially fond of the tatted leaves and the Quantiesque Snowflake.

Beautiful Tatting Barbara, great color choices. I tried to learn Tatting several years ago and my fingers would not co-operate, must give it a try once more.

Hello! and 'Good Morning! Barbara . . . from another Barbara in Brisbane Australia! I found your lovely 'tatted ID' . . . on Shirl's page . . . about half an hour ago. Since then I've been 'visiting' on your website. What a talented lady you are! While I don't do tatting, my sister, Ruth Higginbottom, does it very beautifully and I'm going to send your link http://www.barbaragordon.ws . . .
to her, she'll love it, I know! And, I know nothing of lace making, but I really admire those who do engage in this genteel art. One of my friends, Cindy, is a lacemaker, and I sure she will love what she finds on your site, too!
I'm a lover of all things 'Bruges' and have painted, from a photo my S-I-L took for me, a scene from one of it's many bridges. Also, on www.pbase.com there are quite often, various folders of photos, showing the beauty of Bruges and very frequently . . . examples of their delicate lace.
Barb, it's lovely to meet you here . . . now I must go and put up some photos of our visit to Shirley Bligh, last Saturday! What a wonderful, wonderfilled-day both Ruth and I enjoyed! I'll let you into a little secret . . . shhh! . . . S.B. makes just the yummiest "Pumpkin Soup" . . . and the scrummiest "Butterfly Cakes" you could imagine!! Have a lovely day. Kind regards, B. fom Brisbane!

Hi Barbara, nice to meet you. Thank you for the comment on my white schwalm work. It is actually not hard to follow once you do the prep work. I make sure the design is centred etc. I make a phtocopy of the design pin the centre marks and use graphite paper to trace the design to the fabric. Then with the threads to be withdrawn I have the outline to go buy. I very carefully darn the ends round the outline which is going to be heavily embroidered over anyway. The patterns are quite easy to follow and if you do such lovely hardanger you would adapt very quickly.
