My husband and I are in Scotland at the moment, in the next 12 months we well be going back home to Oz, so in the mean time I am trying to get as many skills and ideas in this field as possible so that I can teach or at least share with my friends when I go back to Oz.

About Me

I love doing most things crafty, I have done scrappbooking for more than 10 years now, and card making for much longer than that. My passion for embroidery really only came after my mother passed away 10 years ago. I inherited some of her embroidery stuff (my sister got the other half) and so this got me started more enthusasticly. I started going to an embroidery workshop each Friday at Sunlit Blooms in Townsville, Australia, and so the say the rest is history. We have been here in the UK for the past 3 years now, and I enrolled into a stumpwork one day class at the Royal School of Needlework. I then was introduced to my tutor, Kate Sinston, and we became friends, she invited me along to her project for making new vestments for St Pauls Cathedral. So I volunteered and have done so for the last 18 months now. It just opened up several doors for me, and since doing a few courses with the Embriderers Guild, I now want to get as much experience and hints and tips as I can so that when we eventually go back home, I can pass on these skills to my friends back home.
I have had two articles published on my time at St Pauls, and I am very proud to have been involved in this project. I have also had an article published in the Embroiders Guild magazine (Contact) regarding the courses held by the Guild at Hampton Court Palace.
I am now doing online courses though Joggles.com with Sharon B as my tuitor, and various EG Scottish guild courses.

Ribbon Embroidery Classes online.

I like the classes that Barbara at Joggles.com offers, and Shanon Boggon is one of my favourite tutors. So when I read that Sharon was doing Silk Embroidery, I just couldn't say no.
Lesson one was easy, thank heavens, as it's getting busy in this household now, preparing to go home, nice and simple detatched chain stitches, stem stitch and leaf stitch. The colours recommended (as they are daisy's) was yellow, but I have only maves, so here is my piece. I like it, delicate spray of daisy's.
I was… Continue

My latest ATC swap

My ATC Swap - Theme Winter.
I have joined an Embroiderers Guild online forum ATC swap, they are a group of 7 other ladies that I make 7 ATC's for and send them off, in return I get 7 back. The swap for this year are the seasons, we have just finished Winter, and we have a few months to do Spring, Summer and Autumn. I had a lot of fun making them, this being my first set, and not knowing really what to make, I made my winter ones all the same design, and just used different t… Continue

Hi Arlene, just been checking out your photos from your St Pauls project. I always forget, not being a churchgoer, that one of the few places in the UK who still use hand embroidery on a daily basis are the churches. Some lovely work going on in the photos and looks like a nice social environment.
best regards

Arlene, I love the way that your Winter Warmer ATC's are the same but totally different. I really regret not taking part in this swap but know that I would not have had time to do it and there is nothing worse than letting people down.

I've set up a blog on my stitchinfingers page, and have recreated this tutorial there. All the photos and diagrams will pop up immediately when you look at each section, and you won't have to click on each graphic separately. I think it will be easier to use. It is 4:46pm in Chicago on Jan 27. By 7pm local time, the whole thing will be up.

Thanks Arlene for your comment( I don't copy any pattern, it's free drawn)But I like your work because I like the embroidery in 3D (are you inspired by Jennifer Rochester in Stitc? I read Stitch magazine and all the work of english women!)
Now, Your blog is in my favorite!
I shall read it every day

Hi! Your blog is really interesting and I was fascinated to see how many stitches level 1 included! I don't think the level 3 cert course I'm doing will cover half that many as there are so many other tecniques and so on 'getting in the way' of hand embroidery. You can see what I'm doing at College, along with other stitchery on my blog, Sew in Love.

Hi Arlene, I just got the goldwork group up and running and am inviting you to join. I should have adjusted the photo I used for the icon but will fix it later. I am out of town and on the blackberry until Monday. Thanks for your patience.

Hi Arlene, I'm in the isle of Lewis over on the west coast. It's fantastic for inspiration on this side... lots of rugged landscape.
