Is it just me, or is anyone else getting Error 500 messages and it's taking ages to add a comment or go back a page?  I just de-fragged my hard drive and everything else is working well.Continue

Kundan work and petal stitch

"Mahalaksmi, I believe we have similar taste in embroidery.  I love to re-embroider designs already printed on fabric.  This has taken something lovely but simple and made it into something extraordinary.  The petal work is gorgeous."

Profile Information

What type of textile arts are you interested in?
I love all textiles, especially embroidered, beaded and embellished in any way. I also love knitted fabrics. I love making my own clothing and use high quality fabrics.
I make small art quilts, so contemporary quilting appeals to me very much.
What's your favorite type of needlework?
I learned to knit at school (in the UK) when I was 6, knitting squares for blankets for refugees. I took a year of embroidery classes at high school because I had to. Since then I am self-taught. I have learned so many skills via the internet.
I love to smock, both traditional English smocking and contemporary smocking. Embroidery has always played a huge part in my spare time and now I'm retired I want to learn as much more as possible. I have done so many different types of embroidery from crewel work to Tenerrife lace, but my favourite is surface embroidery. Alas there is no embroidery group (Embr. Guild, e.g.,) that I have found anywhere within 100 miles of where I live.
Please feel free to tell us a little bit about yourself by way of introduction.
I spent over three weeks in Rajasthan and Gujarat in October 2013. What a warm and friendly people, and such spectacular needlework. I am planning another trip soon. I'm learning Hindi - a huge undertaking as no classes are offered here. I'm "going it alone", but loving it. I love all things Indian, but most of all the people and their love of life and their thankfulness for what they have.

Thank you so much Ann for your wonderful comments.. I have not done any embroidery for the past 2 years due to my health condition..I had a severe nerve problem and was not able to move around. after taking treatment now I feel a little better but,I cannot sit in my sewing machine for long. So now I am doing beaded jewelry as this involves not sewing :). Thank you so much for writing to me.

Hello Ann,   Your weekend greetings are as welcome and meaningful as always.  This, indeed, will be a special weekend for you as you are enjoying the company of your four young ladies.  I wish you fun, laughter and frolics.  The summer is still with us here but it is changeable and we have had more rain than is normal or desired.  This is a holiday weekend here as well and the roads will be extra busy with those city dwellers making the last of the summer downtime.  I will have a happy but busy weekend with several jobs getting done.  No more windows or drapes though.  Those are completed.  I celebrate a BIG Birthday on Monday and we are having a family party next Saturday.  It will be grand to have everyone one here and together as it does not happen very often.

Wishing you and your guests one super dooper weekend.  Love  Ann B.
