I love Crocheting, Knitting, Quilting, Weaving, Sewing, Doll making (polymer clay, and cloth). I can draw and paint. I do bead work and other general crafts.
Where did you learn your textle skills?
I was born in San Francisco, California, but now reside in Hayward, Calif.
Hi Andrea. I sent you a message via the private message system here. Let me know if you don't get it. I've had some problems with that system in the past.
I always loved goofy faces and monsters or other general creatures with googly or large eyes. I also purchased 3 different needle felted books and one of those books showed how to felt a face.
One of the Yahoo Groups, I think the Freeform Crochet Group. One of the Members started a bag exchange. 12 different people including myself signed up. I knew I wanted to make goofy faces on my bags and no one had any idea what the other person was getting. I emailed each lady in the exchange and asked what their favorite color was, they emailed me back and I mailed them a wet and needle felted bag of their favorite color and they were blown away. I enjoyed making those bags so much, I ended up making more of them, took them to The Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, Oregon and Hazel let me put my bags on display at her booth and she swore she made 15% more sales on her Hazel Rose Looms than she ever expected. More people stopped by to look at those bags, I paid her 10% of what was sold. I went up there with close to 30 bags and came home with only 10 left. I traded a couple of my bags with some items I wanted with a couple of other booths that fell in love with my bags. I'm planning on making more, but I need some plain white fiber to spin that's feltable. The first bags I made were of commercial wool yarns. Someone gave me 4 or 5 giant skeins of white wool yarn that I had sitting around for a couple of years and ended up using it up making this bags, plus I had some loose white fiber lying around and dyed them the colors I needed using Kool-Aid.
I also have a sketch book and was doing some doodling and dreaming up some new goofy faces. I'm working on making more pretty soon.
Hi Andrea,
Thanks for the info...I've never tried felting before but I love the look. The bags are really fun.
From where do you generally draw your inspiration?
Thank you Liz for your nice compliment. Once I get the second sock done maybe I'll have my Husband photograph my feet while wearing them. I'm planning on completing the second sock soon. I would also like to make other pairs in different colors.
Hi, Jane
If you go back on Hazel Rose Looms website, they show a demo on how you weave on these looms. There may also be a demo on U-Tube, but I'm not sure. These Looms are unique. When you weave on them, they are continuous weave. You're warping the loom the same time as you're weaving and there's no yarn waste like the typical Multi-Harnest Looms or Ridged Heddle Looms.
Hi, Nacinlyn
Come to our BARC Crochet Guild meeting in October 5th at Adela's Yarns in Castro Valley. We meet there the first Sunday of the Month unless that day falls on a Holiday. If you don't live in Hayward now, where town do you stay in? Hayward is a pretty nice town. I use to have a Supervisor that lived in Hayward...he might still do and that's what made me want to move here.
Hi, Michellemermaid and and Jo in NZ
My felted funnyface bags....for some of them I used the smallest knifty knitter circular loom and knitted about 25 to 30 rows using bulky wool yarn that was given to me. Once I reached the length I wanted, I took a 6" piece of yarn and drew up the bottom of the bag, tied a tight knot and wove the ends into the stitches. I single crocheted with a chain stitch ever 5 stitches on the edge of the opening for the drawstring to go thru. I dyed the loose fibers, the bag it's self and the drawstring in different dyes. (I used KooAid to dye the bag and fibers). Once the bag was dried, I woved the drawstring thru the casting and fasten the ends of the drawstring together before I felted the entire bag. After the bag dried, I needle felted the details of the goofy faces or scenery on the bags.
I used the same felting procedures on the square bags, except I used a 12" and 8" Hazel Rose Loom for the different size bags.
Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I just got my messages yesterday, plus I didn't get a chance to get on the computer since my Husband and I are putting together a large storage shed for me to put my stash.

Andrea, your work is so beautiful. I am in awe of your knitting and crochet skills. I'd love to see someone wear those freeform socks. What a hoot!
Hi Andrea... you do such beautiful work. I'm completely taken by those little beaded frogs. Do you sell those or would you be interested in doing a swap of some kind? I have a friend who collects all kinds of frogs and these would be perfect for her.
Hi Cookie!
I remember you from Margaret's & Pru's classes at Laci's a while back. I have this recurring vision of you strolling around the room, chatting away and crocheting the whole while.
I grew up in Hayward and go back often. I'll be out again in a couple of weeks while my dad recovers from hip surgery. We should try to get together!
Hugs,
Nancilyn
