"That Night We Walked Across The Waterloo Bridge"

"That Night We Walked Across The Waterloo Bridge"

pieced, embellished quilt

Making this little quilt has been a whole, new adventure for me. I have used paint in mixed media works before, but this is the first time that I have used one of my paintings as The Focal Point of a quilt. I painted a smallish abstract with acrylics on canvas and then cut this into 3 separate pieces. I used the painted pieces as I would any fabric & put the quilt together. I had The Best Time embellishing this pce.!! I don't know if you can see them in the photo, but I used 5 dark bronze metal triangles which I tried to emphasize with brightly-coloured embroidery thread. There are 7 primitive-looking metal gold-ish discs; 3 wheels (with lots of spokes) which I tried to highlight with a partial row of brightly-coloured beads for each; and there are 9 good-sized polished reddish stones. Finally, there are a number of rectangular-shaped purple-ish shells which I stitched on with metallic-gold thread. Think: those railings on bridges.

I had The Worst Time coming up with a title!! I always thought of my little abstract painting as a view of London, but...from where?? Then it hit me: from the Waterloo Bridge!! I walked across this bridge many, many times when I lived in London at all hours of the day & night. It offers one of The Best Views of London ever!!

Wonderful work, Charlotte.  The use of mixed media really accentuates this piece!
