These Slippers for the May Queen are made from merino felt, embroidered with silk threads, and embellished with rooster feathers and vintage gold round and star-shaped studs. I created them for an exhibition that is to run the whole of October - they were bought by the curator who hung the exhibition.
The verse around the shoes, stitched in silk floss, reads:
"Oh May Queen, May Queen,
Take off your shoes...
...Put on your slippers
For summer is through."
The slippers are for the May queen to wear in autumn when her long summer of toil is over.
They are about 20cm long.
