Pocket for Spring

An embroidery on Irish linen based on a concept by Lee Westfield. This little bag features pulled threadwork, metallic threads, bullion roses, picot leaves, tiny sequins and faux pearls. It is lined with printed cotton. It was exhibited at a gallery in October 2011, along with 3 more of my works and the work of other embroiderers and fibre artists.

This one I recently gave away to a lovely friend who had painted me a lovely image of flax bushes, which I have hung in my kitchen. She is a pink person, and I am not, so her house was the perfect home for this little "Pocket".

Thanks Shirley. It's just a satin stitch like on a Kloster block, but I think the variegated thread makes all the difference to the effect and softens the squareness of the castellation.
