Sharon, I also didn't know what an 'orts' jar was, but like the idea.  I have been away from SF for a bit, but have been following you on PIN TANGLE Daily.  So good to peruse this site again.  So much creative juice flows through it.

Sharon, I have an antique crystal jam jar (lid missing) and do the same thing with my ends of threads and ribbons.  When I have enough, I sandwich it between sheets of Solvy and make "lace".  I love watching how the colours seems to go in layers in the jar.
