Red Brocade Spool Bird

Needless to say, I am very pleased with the way it's turned out. Red coton a broder on white linen, breast piece from re-purposed red linen blouse. Other angles in my Flickr photostream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/book_wallah/4912324674/in/photostream/
I found the pattern for these birds on the Spool Sewing site: http://www.spoolsewing.com/blog/2008/05/16/bird-mobile/

Gorgeous Bird...I wondered what it would look like when put together...

[http://stitchinfingers.ning.com/profile/MaryCorbet] They have a Flickr group, too...and yes, lots of mobiles and strong contrasting colors there! Which is why I'm heading in the opposite direction, with monochome schemes and I'm looking into neutrals next...greys and blacks...bucking the rainbow trend just a bit. ;)

This bird had much the same effect on me Mary, but I pictured them in Christmas colours to have them on the Christmas tree :-)

NICE!! I love him! The color, the embroidery design, and ... the BIRDINESS of it! This is great! I checked out the link for the tutorial - suddenly, I want to make birds. LOTS of birds! I think they'd make a great baby mobile, especially stitched in strong contrasting colors.

Ah, he turned out beautifully. I love how the brocade looks feathery.

This looks really beautiful. Is there a pattern for this and where can I get one?

Don't know what I'd do with a flock of them, Barbara! Already this little guy's just hanging around the house with nothing to do. I like things to have a purpose of some sort. I am going to make myself a pincushion tomorrow, before this bird becomes one!
Sue, I did enjoy stitching it...funnily enough, putting it together (no machine, did the joins by hand) was the most enjoyable part for me. Seeing it come together...
