I used Sylvia Pippens pattern turtles for the center circles, stitched on wool felt circles, which were appliqued onto the batik like rectangle. I then stitched the ocean waves sashiko design (shells) onto the borders and sewed them on. The final step was to sashiko stitch the starfish (also on wool felt) and applique those on. When I finished this piece I used an old towel as backing, and it is now my bathroom mat :)
