The style is called "orlovskiy spis" in Russian. I'm not sure if it can be transleted...

It is lovely.  I think something similar was done in western Europe, as a part of whitework, and called damask embroidery (it is in the DMC Encyclopedia).  But I like it much better in red, bold and vibrant.
