I very much admire needle lace--and this piece is quite lovely-- and I wish my vision were good enough to enable me to try it myself.

Sharon: thanks for telling me about that. I hoped this piece would receive some notice, but I never expected so much! I still regard myself as a beginner at needle lace. I'm still learning and trying to improve my skills.

Yes tension control is a major part of learning needle lace. You just have to practice. Some attach the work to a pillow, either tubular or cookie shaped, and this leaves both hands free to manipulate the thread. Look at http://lynxlace.com/learningneedlelace.html if you want to try it out. The best part of needle lace is that you can take anything as a basis for a design. A drawing, photo from a magazine, photo of your dog or your kid. Anything. Learn the basics of how to make a piece hold together, then just apply that knowledge.

Beautiful. Makes me want to try needellacing. I think you have to have a good control of tension, right?
