lower left cornerstone

The faces are different on each corner. The flowers are out of my imagination or as I remembered them. They are stitched with #8 pearl cotton. The quilting is pearl cotton also, in little running stitches. There is no batting because it isn't required in crazy quilts.

Oh, the eyes are iridescent black beads.  They are sewn over black fiber..I made a stencil from the face part of the drawing and cut holes then felted the black fiber in the hole.

Believe it or not it doesn't take long to achieve a sheep portrait.  The drawing is simple (not a lot of detail) and the face is built up by making stencils by cutting the drawing up.  Cut out the face, fill in with combed fiber, Fill in the ears and then needle felt  the curly fiber on the body starts at the bottom. working to the top like fur grows.  You an even cut out the expression lines and use a Sharpie marker the mark the lines by pouncing up and down.   You wouldn't be able to use a lightbox here to trace the lines because it is thick by now.  Then embroider the mouth and nostrils over the marker.

Yes, all the faces are felted.  The face is smooth fiber and the body is felted with curly fiber, right off the sheep (well, not quite...the fiber is washed to remove the lanolin).

Is this sheep felted?  I wish I could see your quilt in person because I'm certain

these photos do not do it justice!  Stunning work!
